Looking through the helmet setups thread, I din't see any helmets set up with the Streamlight Compact Sidewinder.  Streamlight literature says that the IR on it is 25mW, but it also has a 5%, 25% and 60% settings.  I did see several with the Surefire M1 IR.  I think it's 10mW.  I have a couple of the Photon Micro IR that are rated at 11mW, but there is no reflector or anything on those.

Anyone played with the Streamlight Sidewinder Compact?  http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=166#tabs

Any comparisons between it and the Surefire M1?  I know this is an expensive hobby, but I try to save when I can.  The M1 runs $112 from TNVC, and is probably the one I'll end up going with unless someone has glowing reviews about the Sidewinder Compact.   It's about $50-$70 on eBay.

I've tried both the Surefire and the Streamlight.....for personal navigation or looking at a map....I'll give it to the sidewinder.....it's just a bit clunky compared to the surefire....much brighter though.

I personally just run a 6P with a flip up IR filter on my helmet....and have a full size Sidewinder on front of chest rig...and a back up Sidewinder as a counter weight.

Echo2's right on: they seem less low-profile, perhaps clunky, and so for that, I first didn't like them. Once I got over it not looking coolguy... I really started to like the fact that I could angle the light most any way, have all the brightness levels easily dialed in, switch to white/red/green visible light when not using NODs and just hunting for gear in my pack in a truck or deer blind, etc... When I'm out with a bunch off people that are armed and using NV as well, I rotate it backwards and use the strobe blinky feature on low so as to announce my presence to others in the field for safety.  Lots of features, it's just not as low slung as other options.

She ain't pretty, but she always performs. :)
