| Has anyone tried using one in a Surefire G2 or other brand and tried it for a weapon light. There seem to be a bunch of cheap ones on ebay and I've found them for around $25 online. Are they junk, don't hold up, poor output? I don't remember seeing any in this forum and I figured there might be a good reason. |
It sucks.
Here's a thread where I asked about the exact same thing. http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=541686 Heres my experience with (from the thread): I ordered that lamp assembly I posted above. When I opened it up it said to trim the large outside spring for a G2 body. While trimming the spring it came of the brass housing. Putting it back on the brass housing the reflector came off the housing and wouldn't screw back on. (Threads were too shallow). When I finally got the assembly back together and put it in the G2 housing I hadn't trimmed it enough, and trying to take the bezel off somehow the LED came off the brass assembly. So now I got a useless Cree IR LED. Luckily it was only $15. I wish there was a higher quality unit, the battery junction unit looks exactly the same. |
| I picked up two of them about 2-3 years ago off FleaBay. Seller stated that it wouldn't fit flush in a G2, but would work. I think I paid $8-$10 apiece. They lack about 1/8 to 3/8" of sitting flush, so if you want watertight, it's not. I have had mine out in the rain, dropped them many times, etc., never had a problem. They are MUCH brighter, I use both a lot and they are still working. I didn't trim anything, but I guess that was before we knew we had to??? I'd buy again in a heartbeat for my use. Just my .02 |

Bought one that arrived with the LED off center and crushed. It was replaced, but that took three more weeks.
Had to clip the spring and file a little on the housing get it to fit. Performance is massively disappointing. It is only marginally brighter than the built in illuminator in the PVS-14. Definitely worthless. |
