I've asked before, but now have more details and want to be sure I don't ruin my new pvs14.

Situation:  I want to plink with headmounted pvs14 and a laser.  I've done a quick check and the visible laser I have doesn't cause a bloom big enough to affect accuracy at the ranges I would want shoot.

Question:  Will it damage my night vision device to use a visible laser?

any visible light can cause damage - also light in the non visible spectrum can cause damage.   long range, your vis laser wont really make that big of a deal, but at close range it can ruin your day (Night) or at the least leave a nasty burn with the right amount of power/short distance to the target.   best way to put it, just because an IR laser cant be seen with the naked eye it is really no different from a vis laser in the same power class as the visible laser...

Other than stealth,  is there an advantage to using an ir laser with night vision?

That's about it (stealth),  you may try the home made filter option - negative film or like material to achieve a better mousetrap....
