| This is a new guy question, but in the 8 years of military service I was in I had never heard of autogain and autogate. I'm trying to get a set of 14's and all of sudden it turned into a much harder purchase than I expected. What should I be looking for in a set? I don't plan on running it on a rifle, but just in case I want it to be rifle (5.56) capable. |

Great for reduced blooming or using the scope in high light urban environments. Rural setting ??? No advantage that I could ever see. All new tubes are supposed to be rated for 5.56 . Some are more suited than others but that is a long story. Buy from a reputable dealer who has a no nonsense return policy. I like the Night Enforcer at TNVC because those guys know the business and you get a 5 year warranty. In fact you get a prepaid return sticker to ITT if you ever have any issue. Slap it in a box and throw the sticker on it. Could not be easier. Cheap options exist in night vision. They are cheap for good reason. Be vigilant and don't drink the Kool Aid. Tubes are like diamonds and a good jeweler is what is needed to wade through the junk. |
| Dino. I've been following up on most of your threads and your info is real insightful. Unfortunately I am on a budget and was hoping to see something affordable pop up that won't compromise on quality (I know, it's sounds like I'm asking too much). I thought about building my own, but wish I knew a little more on the subject. Thanks for the input though, I'll see if I can afford the extra buck to buy retail. |

You can build your own and I will help you. This is not taboo. Will talk you through it every step of the way, |

Shot you an IM. Thanks for the help, I look forward to the build. Got it. First step is getting a housing such as this at the link. http://www.tnvc.com/shop/pvs-14-complete-parts-kit/ Next step is finding a suitable tube. Call dealers and ask about tubes and prices. TNVC, Summit, AEO, Night Vision Depot are all places that will sell you a tube. Prices vary depending on quality. Once you get the parts we can put it together step by step. The housing kit at TNVC contains all the parts you need minus the tube. The hardest part of assembly is keeping it clean and dust free. Got lots of tricks for that involving canned air and a shop vac. |
| Dino, I found a 'new' unit that has a factory blemish, but still has a full warranty (2 year tube, 3 year body; A unit). My question is, depending on the type of blemish, is it possible to repair it without voiding the warranty? Or should I just wait and see what happens down the road to request service? It's priced just right for exactly $2200 which is below my expected budget. |
