| When you add a 2X optical lens to a thermal mono does it double the system resolution simlar to NV? My new FLIR PS32 shipped today and one of my buddies was waiting to check it out first hand to help make up his mind on ordering a PS32(320x240) or a TS-24(240x180) with the extra 2X lens. I was thinking the TS-24 even having the lower pixel imager would still make a clearer image when the 2X optical lens is used do to true system resolution but didn't what to tell him something wrong before he orders. Thanks! |

Hi Terry1, Putting an optical doubler on will only increase the zoom level. It will not increase the total resolution at all. The TS24 scope will still be 240x180 no matter what. Doubling the TS24 will give you slightly more system resolution than the PS32. Without the doubler, it less. I don't know what you want system resolution over picture resolution, but I don't see much benefit from it for most purposes. It will also halve the FOV. I don't know why the TS24 costs more - perhaps someone here who is familiar with both can make a suggestion? But from a resolution perspective, the PS32 beats the TS24 imo. Regards David

Thanks thats how I see it myself. He found the TS24's in stock with discounted pricing somewhere online (several hundred dollars off). He was going that route until I ordered my PS32 and then he deside to wait and check out the PS32 before he desided which way to go. The TS24 is lower pixel and has no digital zoom feature like the PS32 has but he planned to add the TS-scout optical 2X lens down the road which would be better than the digital zoom clarity wise and like everyone else he likes the removeable battery/batteries on the TS series. He keeps trying to buy my PS32 from me and I haven't even received it yet |
