My MUM/Mini 14 is getting pretty old, and I'm looking for an upgrade. All these modern, compact thermal optics have caught my eye, and I'm stuck on them pretty well. I've surfed here and other sites for many hours now, watched a couple hundred videos on Youtube and particularly checked out the images in THIS OTHER FORUM THREAD and the KATI/COTI review posted here.
It seems that the Insight MTM v2 might be a decent compromise/combination of three things I want:
My initial plan was to pick up a cheap PVS-14, a rail mountable thermal scope/"monocular" camera from the FLIR Scout line, AND a DBAL laser. The MTM v2 seems to fulfill all my needs. Obviously, my impressions of the MTM are limited to other people's internet reviews and videos, but they all seem very favorable. That Mt. Washington series of photos really makes the MTM seem comparable to an "actual image intensifier", and when I factor in my three desires, it would seem to be a pretty good bargain. Am I totally off base, here? I would appreciate any user feedback, further images, or anything to influence my decision. Thanks! |

i got the m18 and its great - but - i would allways keep a good iit nv mono for the simple reason - in the car or thru any glass , the thermal just can not see out .
with normal nv. you can drive along with it etc. or look out the window to see stuff , thats where thermal is let down - lots of other advantages though - need both |

The MTM V2 is a phenomenal optic and would certainly fulfill your mission profile. It is extremely ergonomic and lightweight. I have a lot of experience with it. The unit fits easily in the hand and all controls are placed in easy reach. The layout makes a lot of sense and you don't have to look at the device to operate it.
It easily mounts to a helmet and has the laser you are looking for. The MTM V2 is also very robust and holds up to field abuse. It is honestly, the best option for your needs. http://www.tnvc.com/shop/mtm-v2-w-visible-laser-pointer/ |

Do you have any pics or video shot through one? I'm not clear on the difference between the one you linked and the $15k PAS-23 visible laser version. Is it similar to the difference between PVS-14 NE and Milspec versions? Thanks! Here ya go....http://www.tnvc.com/shop/mtm-vis-mini-thermal-monocular-w-visible-laser-pointer/ |
