Hey guys,

Thanks for the great input I have gotten from this site and the guys at TNVC.

About a month ago, I had a chance to look through a Raptor NV scope.  It was my first experience with Gen 3 NV, and I was hooked.  After some researching, I decided a PVS-14 would be the most versatile option, so that's what I went with.

For now, I have it weapon mounted, but having now spent some time with it, I can definately see the benefits of having it helmet mounted, so I may look into that at some point.  I am using the TM-14 mount from TNVC, so it will be any easy transition.  I selected an EOTech optic to help with the FOV issue, but I still don't like how the optic cuts down the FOV when the PVS-14 is weapon mounted.

Also, the jury is still out for me on the Wilcox amber filter.  It does a good job for what it is designed to do, but I feel like it noticably degrades the image.  I know it isn't supposed to, and others may have a differing opinion, but it just seems to dim the image.  I am going to stick with it for now, and see if I can get used to it because it is definately more user friendly than the floppy eye cup.

Anyway, here's the pics!:

Her nighttime attire:

Here are some pics through the PVS-14.  Keep in mind, these were taken at about 11:00 at night, and I live out in the country, so believe me, it was dark.  The camera doesn't quite do the image justice.  It is an amazing little device.  The first time I looked through a Gen 3 NV device, I knew I had to have one!

Nice setup and excellent pictures - if they are your first, you've done exceptionally well on both counts :)

Thanks a lot.  It is my first time with the scope and pictures.  I have read a lot of your posts and comments, and really respect your opinion, so I appreciate the input.

Outstanding weapon and pics.

Stick with the Wilcox, as you get used to it, operating in a very dark environment with both eyes becomes easy.

AWESOME setup.  Try this: Move the Eotech a little bit forward towards the muzzle, see if the edges of the shroud get "swallowed" a little and not restrict the FOV so much. See if it helps some, I don't have a PVS, but have a similar lens and it helped me a little.

You owe it to yourself to get an IR laser and an nice helmet mount to go with that rig!
It gives you alot of options that the gunmounted NV keeps you from doing.

Cool set anyway!

You don't mess around.  I think most of us started out by looking through a cheap commercial gen 1 unit.  You start with a Raptor and then pick up a PVS-14.  Way to go!

Definitely invest in an IR laser and a helmet mount.  They make it a much more flexible system.

My thinking was the exact opposite.  I was trying to get the optic as close to the NV as possible.  I'll play around with it a little more.  Thanks for the idea!

No problem. It works with one scope I have and not with the other so ymmv. Of course light will reflect off the eo if it's behind you and cause a reflection if it's bright enough.

OP, which "flavor" of PVS-14 is that? I'm looking at getting my first setup as well and I know they have about 3 or 4 PVS-14s listed on the site.

Thanks

I actually bought this PVS-14 used from a friend.  However, I am pretty sure he originally got it from TNVC.  It is an ITT AN/PVS-14.  It is a non-pinnacle model, but is a Gen 3 and is autogated.  I don't think I see one on their website now that is this exact model.  I'm sorry I don't know more about it than that.  Maybe someone from TNVC will chime in?

When you get down to picking the exact model, give TNVC a call, and they can help you come up with the best option.  I did buy the weapon mount from them, and am glad I did.  It works great!
