I got a summer job in KY for the summer and am wondering how best to transport my D-300. I am being flown out there and I could pack it in its pelican case and take it on the plane but then no insurance if something goes wrong. I could ship it but how much would $1400 insurance cost and who would be best to use?

Carry-on the unit with you. I travel this way constantly. X-Ray will do nothing harmful to your NV. The only thing harmful can be the TSA's curiosity, so REMOVE the batteries and tell him/her to handle it carefully IF they take it out of it's case. Usually they do not. Hope this helps.

I'd ship it UPS. TSA are communists. You might be takend back and waterboard for taking night vision on. Then to add insult to injury after they arrest you on suspition of being a evil dooer
You're picture will end up in the picture with a comment from the local police cheif saying "that bringing NV on an airplane is evidence of a lack of good judment " Then he will have a new toy for the local PD's next round of airsoft warrior. |

Considering I am pro-life, a gun owner and a veteran, bringing NV might constitute probable cause to label me as a right wing terrorist (TSA is under DHS IIRC)

I know you must be joking or trolling here....  There is NO issue taking NV with you for carry-on. I do this for a living, with NO issues. Hope this helps.
