great setup guys.

anyone know where to get helmets for LARGE headed folks like myself? my noggin measures at least 61 centimeters, and most of these cut off a tiny bit before that. any suggestions of comments would be welcomed, thanks!

Hi,

Thought id post a picture from across the pond.....

Same as a number of pictures already posted; the ubiquitous PVS-14 but mounted this time on a British Mk6a ballistic helmet, mount used is the issued rhino arm and helmet mount. Would love to drill and mount onto the helmet proper but not allowed to :/

Thanks for looking,

Dave.

As for the strap attachment; I hear ya.  The only thing I can suggest is taping down the throw lever to make sure that it doesn't catch on anything and come undone.  Also, make sure to dummy cord the optic to the helmet in case it does come off

Hi,

Thanks for the comment :)

Ive taken a couple more pictures as requested, not too sure what you mean by 'shroud' though ........... Sorry

And

If you need them theres also a few more in the following gallery, hopefully they show enough detail. If not just shout :)

Thanks for the tips on securing, when we move onto using  them 'proper' then i will no doubt follow your advice :)

Best regards,

Dave.

No disrespect, but what do you guys do with these helmet rigs? You would think that short of being in the Special Forces, the helmets and NVGs would just sit there...

are you serious bro?  what do you think they do with them.....ummm...uhhhh....hummm....maybe wear them???  Thats why a lot of guys go with the bike helmets.  They dont need ballistic protection so they go for light weight for comfort.

Duh...main reason for helmet and mount is for hands free use.  Think about it, you want to walk around all night with one hand always holding the NV?  The stock head harneses that come with them are a pain to get adjusted just right, and even then are very uncomfortable after a while.

Wow...while I was thinking of why you guys mount multi-thousand dollar night vision to helmets it never occurred to me that you ummm...uhhh...hummm...wear them. Captain obvious.

The answer I was looking for was what FordGuy said about the intruders in the middle of nowhere, BRO.

Riding quads in the dark, hunting hogs at night, stealthy surveillance during power outages, etc.

And if you look at my resonce then you would see I gave a totaly usefull and just as informative answer as well:

"...hands free use.  Think about it, you want to walk around all night with one hand always holding the NV?  The stock head harneses that come with them are a pain to get adjusted just right, and even then are very uncomfortable after a while"

im not psycic so no way i could have know what type of answer you were "looking for".  I love to do night hikes.  When you are on a long night hike you dont want to have to walk around holding the NV.  The helmets (even mine) which is just a PSAGT helmet with extra padding is MUCH MUCH more comfortable then the stock braincrusher head harness.

I think it is a dummy cord for the NOD.

M1-Matt is correct - its a dummy cord / retractable lanyard for the NOD. Since the Wilcox mount is a break-away type, the lanyard keeps the NOD / mount from falling to the ground.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Clint

I wonder if you can get the retractable lanyard separately?  I bet I you can screw/bolt it on to the top of my Pro Tec helmet.

Yes you can - the lanyard is available ina  few different mounting configurations. You could probably modify one to work with a Pro-Tech set-up without much effort.

Just got this thing installed today.

Basic CVC helmet setup. I do want to go with a 4-point chin strap and not this 3-point thing to better distribute the weight.

In case anyone's wondering, the helmet band was taken off of my issue helmet. You've probably seen these things in IDF photos. We hand make them out of elastic material with little spaces for different items. On the back, I attached a mitznefet (one of those chef-hat things, helmet cover) and it has space for light sticks or other accessories on the sides. I will sew on a battery compartment soon.

Fun fact: in the IDF we used the helmet bands as IFF (Identify friend-foe). The pattern made on the top looks like a kippah worn by religious Jews. :)

nope just use and IR laser

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=18&t=273304    (thanks for posting this)

or

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320402705416&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_956wt_941

with my 7's and the homebuilt laser I can hit a target at 50yds with no issues

I'm also no expert on NVG as I've had gen I for years and just upgraded to 7's and 14's recently

One big disadvantage with a weapon mount is that to use them you have to be pointing it at everything you are viewing not really the safest or smartest move. Again I'm still training and learning but I would do one of the Bell/Protech helmet setups shown and buy build a good laser and practice practice practice

Newb here that needs some help. I have a MUM/Mini with the J-arm,the factory weapons mount, and the dreaded "skull crusher". I have saved and sold guns to finally get what I wanted and not waste my cash.

I have looked at the bump helmets from TNVC, I can afford $69-129. I am confused as to what mount to use, I assume I will use my factory arm that connects it to the "skull crusher". So what mount does the J-arm connect to? Keep in mind this is a budget project for me. Any help would be great. Guess I may have to call and bug Victor.

I also went with the Bell Raction for my PVS-7 after reading over the posts here.
I bought the helmet at Sports Authority, the mount on Ebay, and the Remington light at Lowes.
I was looking at mounting a flashlight with a rail system but I came across the new Remington Extreme Track headlamp.  It actually worked out great with the batteries in the back to offset the weight.  The LED feature has two red, two red/one blue, two red strobe.  The white light is pretty powerful (more than my Surefire executive) and also has a low setting.  The battery pack has a flashing low light LED for the rear.  I added some MICH chin straps to finish it off.  I'm really happy with the setup.

A few detail shots of how I mounted everything.  I used heavy duty velcro on the light as I would rather have it detach from the helmet than break if I whack it on something.  I work in mostly urban areas so I'm not worried about snagging it on jungle vines etc.  I was able to tuck the light wire into one of the vent holes and since its coiled it stays in place.  I looped a piece of 550 cord on the battery pack which can be removed using the NVG mount button.  It was like the light was made for a helmet!
Since the light is designed to be worn as a head mount and now its on its side, I added some grip tape near the LED controls for quick reference.

Updated another light to Krylon OD green:

If I end up in a situation where I'm wearing my NV and actually need the ballistic protection for my noggin, I have made some incredibly poor choices!
