So...

Is *good* NV equipment ever going to come down in price?  I can't afford $3000+ for a PVS-14, and the really cheap stuff pretty much sucks.

Seems they've been making this stuff for years, it's getting cheaper to make, shouldn't the price on this stuff start to come down?

sigh...

Negative.  Most company inventory goes to the .mil and .gov, meaning almost unlimited contract work at a fixed price.  None of the companies give a damn about the civilian market.  Furthermore, high quality tubes are very expensive to make.  Top quality NV is just not something that follows the normal economies of scale pathway and will not for the foreseeable future.  If you cannot afford Gen III, your best bet is to look at some of the Gen II+.  It is decent and can be had in the ~$1,200 - ~$1,800 range.

Yup pretty much. If anything its been actually going up lately. That and .gov isn't really surplussing alot of their older stuff anymore (Thanks Bill!) Save your pennies.

Why can't George write an excutive order and cancel out Bills excutive order? I know it has been done in the past before. Time to quit blaming Bill and start to ride Georges ass about it.

Mainly because no one really cares. Start writing letters if you really want it. Frankly I don't see it happening without a groundswell of support. It sucks, but thats .gov in general.

Honestly, the major problem with NV cost is supply and demand. There is very limited supply due to very limited demand. There are 2 companies in the US making tubes, and a few more worldwide. There is little competition so they charge what they can get away with. And none of them care about the private market since its so small.
