Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I thought I would try here before starting a new thread. I searched and didn't find anything on the forum but how are Yukon NV scopes? Specifically the titanium 1.5x42 Mini Varmint Hunter and 2.5x50. Not looking for top of the line but something to maybe do some night hunting (hog and/or coyote). If this is the wrong place to post, let me know where is better. I'm obviously new to the forum..
Thanks.

Ok, I've got a question about bright lights and tube damage. At what point does damage to the tubes start to occur? I know you're not supposed to use the scopes like the D-740 and D-760 excessively in the daytime even with the daytime pinhole covers on. But what kind of light source can damage these devices? I see the pics that have street lights and other such light sources in them. My father bought a D-760 from TNVC not long ago and I'd like to get a more definitive answer on this subject than the manual gives. Thanks!!

A little help here? Is it possible to have a GEN 3 NV that looks like this or are they all Gen 2 or 1? Guy says its a Gen 3 and Canadian source. Any help with model number or type would be great. I dont have any more info than the pics

I am almost positive that is a AN/PVS-502. Some other users will most likely chime in to confirm. They use a Gen 1 cascade tube. It is Gen 1 but a very good Gen 1. Has the light gain exceeding many gen 2 scopes. Many still have the typical Gen 1 issues of short tube life and distortion. Some of the tubes are distortion corrected and very good. Tubes are very old and can be hit or miss.

Thank you Sir! We have a winner. Found a pic after going through the whole site here too.- http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=18&t=252875&page=2 An exact match as far as I can tell.

Chip, thanks for writing the info above. 2 questions:
What is the mount pictured on the helmet in the first picture?
And, with the Litton, you said the L3 is more robust for recoil. Would it reliably stand up to the recoil of a .308 AR?

Will daylight damage a tube if it enters from the ocular end of the NV? If I had a clip on device for a daytime scope with an flexible light shroud that screws into the back of the night vision do I need to unscrew this and cap/cover the ocular opening prior to day time storage? I understand that the objective end should always be protected but will the other end allow light to reach the tube? Talking about cheap Gen 2+ stuff not Gen 3. Thanks

Edited for clarity.

I have read ten pages all of this thread so for, and have learned a lot. a metric shit load about NV.

I have called TNVC a couple times asking questions and they will be getting my business. I like their easy to navigate web site and they really seem like a stand up company with good prices and great products.

I honestly don't know. So my question is, is the PINNACLE well worth the extra $700? Say on a scale 1-100 how much better is the PINNACLE over Autogated and please describe the clarity difference? Or should I just get the Autogated so if I want to mount it on a 308 I can? I assume getting a 4x instead of the D-760 6x I will still be able to clearly see out 400 yards and beyond but have a wider FOV? Is 6x brighter, or clearer than 4x?

Help me pick which scope to get. Not only am I trying to chose a scope but I'm torn between the 223 and the 308 for an all around carbine. Seems to me that the recoil of a 308 would not be a very fun shooting caliber with a NV device.
Thanks for your input.

ETA: on a side note, looks like after reading all this I will have to up grade to a pvs 14 from my 3g 7s. When I first got the 7's it was back in the 1990s when I assume they where in style.

Edit one more time:
I think I found some of the answers to my own question after reading about NV for 12 hours.

This thread: Practical Application of Night Vision

That was an amazing read and well put together, thanks Vic. It looks like  PINNACLE is about 15% brighter than Gen3 Auto-Gated along with better clarity. I'm thinking I will get the 740 PINNACLE

Thought I would stick this in here also.  Didn't see this topic covered previously.

Does NV go bad when not in use?  Shelf life?

Best summary of the thread is here from TNVC_Kyle:
"Modern, high performance tubes are listed at 10,000 hours of use. The systems are built completely on electrical operation. Photons to Electron, Split and View on a phosphor screen (obviously oversimplified). Point is, when power is shut off, system is entirely dormant and the clock stops. There is no degradation with shelving them."

Now that many of us are getting spec sheets with our tubes some education may be important to understand what they mean!

I know that this is true for me as I'm completely new to this game.
Take a look a this thread to help understand what the spec's mean.  It doesn't appear to be just a numbers game!

By CJ7Hawk:
Understanding basic tube parameters and their significance

I'm also going to add a link to another thread.  This one was just recently started to get a feel for what spec's tubes are currently shipping with for PVS-14's.
Why are the Night Enforcer PVS-14's such high performers?

Just throwing this out there.. Is there anyone that can help me find out my tube specs?  I am considering purchasing a new pvs-14 but was curious how far off my tube specs were from some of the newer units out there and see if its worth it.  Also just curious about its numbers.    Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thank you in advance guys!

As a builder and land developer in Maryland, I know how important customer satisfaction is in building your business. I just received my Armasight Orion 5x generation 1+ Night Vision scope, and after reading the enclosed  user manual, I had a few questions. I called your customer service number and spoke with Steve B. Not only did he take the time to answer my questions but explained in detail, how this devise functions. He explained what I should expect and what limitations I should be aware of. The more he told me, the more I learned. He informed me, when I inquired about the expected range of night vision scopes, not to have unrealistic ideas of this devices’ capabilities, but that this sight was very capable of doing what I needed it for.(hunting coyotes). But what impressed me most, was not how well the optics would perform, but the time and energy Steve B. took to listen to my questions, and the way he represented the company he works for.  Armasight is very lucky to have such a knowledgeable, courteous, and dedicated employee.

Thank you Armasight,

Not 100% this is the right spot for this question, but here goes...

So I got a bag of gear from a buddy of mine who was a Marine in Afghanistan.  In with the gear was this mount.

What is it?  What's it worth?  Is this the right section for this?

The image will be upside down. The tube in a PVS-14 is a F9815 model and has a small ribbon cable attached (power and gain control)  the PVS-7 is the F9810 model and does not have this cable and is powered by contacts on the tube body, it also does not have any manual gain control, the tube is designed for the prism optics inside of the PVS-7 that split the image for the dual eye piece.

You can Google "F9810 Image Tube" or :F9815 Image Tube" and see images on some sites.

Normally i hate showing off, but I think the stuff I make is worth some exposure.

But i guess it's the MUM conundrum, why tnvc doesn't make something similar.
What i cannot understand is why Nivisys haven't made it optional in the MUM kits,. to choose either bayonet or dovetail j-arm when purchasing a MUM.

No,. the MUM does not have auto off,.

Long story short, When I made my first proper dual MUM bridge i used a bnvd interface shoe which was neatly integrated in to the mounting bridge.

But I had forgot to check the clearance between the slider and the mount bridge, So i just milled a little bit off the slider to make it fit, but i wasn't expecting sparks to be produced from milling aluminium

This thread doesn't get a whole lot of traction brother. I think you'd be best off to create a thread asking this question.

Noob questions. Someone who has never used NV.

I'm looking at getting a helmet mounted setup. I have been focusing on the pvs 14 and pvs 7, I want good quality but not 8g quality.

Does the single view with the pvs 14 disorient anyone, that's my fear on the single tube.

Is there something else mil specish or rock solid that I should look at?

Camaro...

Some people do get disoriented with a single PVS-14, but honestly I think that is a VERY small number and the answer is not necessarily to get TWO tubes. Do yourself a favor and call the guys at TNVC.  They will shoot you straight, answer all of your questions and make recommendations based on what you tell them your budget is.   TNVC will put you on the right path!

Use a 1/2" - 7/8" 4 slot riser with a GI weapons mount. Even if your pvs14 is higher or lower you still will be able to see your rds. I use this to over lap my IR laser and red dot.

In case anyone was looking for a solution to night vision that isnt nearly as expensive as a PVS14 or anything like that, I discovered that you can easily retrofit a Bushnell Equinox Z Digital Night Vision module to a Norotos Rhino mount, which clips straight to your helmet. It's a little front heavy, being a bit larger than the PVS14, but a counterweight on the back of your helmet really helps that.

Parts and Cost:
1x Norotos Rhino Mount - $50 Ebay
1x Rhino Mount Plate - $15 Ebay
1x Bushnell Equinox Z 3x30 - $200 Amazon
1x Mounting Screw

Here are some photos of the finished product. Let me know if anyone is interested in how to do it!

Is there any ITAR restrictions with selling a gen 3 Image intensifier tube (tube only) to an individual in Guam.
If it is okay, any particular paperwork that would need to be filled out?

Cant wait for the sun to go down.   My brand new goggles (Gen3 L-3 OMNI VIII Unfilmed White Phosphor) arrived today and these are a great set of goggles.   The tubes were burned in for 19 hours each.  One tube was made in April, the other in July.   The April tube was so good that it took a while for TNVC to find it's equal.   With a FOM north of 2,650 (per the spec sheet S/N 35+ and center resolution 72) this is going to be a well illuminated night for sure.  I do need help with understanding a few of the other measures on the spec sheet.    Is the High Light Resolution of 36 good?  The output brightness @ 1.0 fc and 20.0 fc 3.4 and 3.3 (the April and July tube respectively) and the Luminanc gain @ 2x-6 fc is 69,323 and 63,552 respectively.   Thanks for the help

Wow, big diff between my photonics 2,100 FOM single tube.   The photonis is not as bright, but the view is smoother - can’t see any tiny light specs with the photonis tube, but I can’t see the tiny ripples in the water as I look down into my in ground pool (from my second story deck (like I can with the better tunes).  It almost seems like the goggles  are being fed too much power.   I don’t have a manual gain control on the goggles - if I did, I would dial the power down by 30% to make the tiny white flickering dots go away.   Hopefully something I just wrote makes sense.

Quick question about manual gain:

I have a PVS-14 ITT Gen 3 Omni VII (not sure if thats even relevant) and i’m curious as to whether or not adjusting the manual gain risks damaging the tube. If adjusting it up means amplifying more light (does it mean that?), then wouldnt that mean that looking at bright things with a gain set high have a higher chance of burning it?

This question comes from my thread on LIFs and color filters @gunsandgear

I searched around a bit but didn’t see anything.

What is the preferred method for cleaning a tube itself? Just isopropyl alcohol and blowing it dry?
