I’d drive the gun down there for $500 plus gas and food.

FedEx was always garbage, I noticed UPS went to shit when I started seeing a lot more DEI hires.

Not at all my experience with Postal Inspection Service. What I was involved in they did zero investigation just took someone's word for it.

Inspection Service started accusing me of something and my only reply was;

1. You need to actually review the tape of the incident in question, none of that happened.

And

2. You actually need evidence before you accuse me of something and threaten my job.

Apparently they decided reviewing the footage would be a good idea before the Union got involved and I sued them personally.

Never heard from them again, told them I expect an apology from the idiot errr... agent who did this.

Like the rest of Law Enforcement, they too are completley useless.

But if it makes you feel better 🤣🤣🤣

I would bet you get paid within 30 to 60 days of claim approval.  It should probably be spelled out somewhere in their regulations and you should ask the Customer Service Rep you spoke to after it was approved to see if she can get the payment expedited.

Hopefully they find the UZI after you get paid and the NFA folks make sure it gets returned to you.  At that point you will have both the UZI and the $25k cash so basically a free UZI and just play dumb and make damn sure not to  ask any questions whatsoever to anyone at USPS beginning right now what should you do if it turns up someday.  Just deposit that money in a CD if you can for a few months to see if the Uzi is found and let that money earn interest and make the USPS come after you for a refund if the UZI ever turns up.

They are probably so incompetent that they might never ask for their money back especially if you make it difficult for them.  If they do want their money back just do the same thing to them that they did to you and make them pursue you for as long as you can stall them and aggravate them as much as possible.   Make sure to drag your feet and make their life hell.  See if you can wear them out.

If the police in Salina, Kansas find this UZI and run a NIC check they will turn it over to the ATF who will return it to me.  The USPS will have no idea any of that happened.  If/when that happens, I'll deal with it then.

Yes many do.
Yes, the United States Postal Service (USPS) uses security cameras and video surveillance within many of its sorting, processing, and distribution facilities. These systems are designed to enhance security, ensure the accountability of employees handling mail, and protect property.

The USPS confirmed with Channel 4 yesterday that the Postal Inspectors turned the investigation over to the OIG.  The OIG doesn't get involved with missing packages.  The OIG gets involved when there is theft.

In 09/2010 I had an rr ar15 disappear from the usps . It was missing for about 90-100 days and then it just showed up 1 day with an apology from the post man. I did everything OP did and no one really seemed concerned. I notified atf that it had been stolen via letter and they responded noting the theft. When it was returned to be me by usps I wrote atf again and notified them it had been recovered. They responded via letter that I was now once again in possession of my mg. My claim was denied. The gunsmith that sent it back to me failed to insure it for the proper amount- he owned his mistake and said he would make up the difference. The post master at my local hub assured me that would find it- . Lucky for me it all worked out- I got my gun back. I no longer mail them- if I’m gonna sell I will get travel papers to the destination and drive it myself to the dealer for a fee. If any of my stuff needs smithing, I will drive it. My only concern is that when you sell this ar- the atf will deny the transfer do to a clerical error saying it’s stolen. Luckily- I still have my letters from atf regarding its loss and recovery.

I hate the USPS so much lately, everything I get is delayed sometimes by massive amounts of time. Everyone has always claimed "registered mail is ultra safe they sent the hope diamond that way...".

Well, like everything else with the enshittification of the USPS, it looks like registered mail is falling apart like the rest of USPS. I recently had a registered package go missing for 2 weeks, no one could tell me anything, and then suddenly it started moving again. I really dont know how anyone at this point can use USPS in course of commerce anymore.

I also had an eBay buyer get a forced refund from me because the USPS was playing games with the package, it was only a $25 item so I really didnt care about the loss, but it spoke to larger issues at play within the USPS. It was also delayed some 2 weeks, the buyer got it. but I realized the USPS is failing and cant be trusted or relied upon in any way shape or form anymore.

They say that the current employee who last signed for the registered package is personally held responsible for the financial loss of the item, I wonder how true it is, somehow I doubt it. Granted, I dont think it would be fair to hold the employee responsible if it were a true case of theft, where some other employee broke into the locked cage and stole items forcefully. But if the theft is due to negligence on the employees part then yes, they should be held personally responsible. Registered mail was supposed to be the most sacred and trusted option, but now we see it cant be trusted.

UPS may not allow MGs but ive still seen them send that way recently. I guess an insurance claim would not be paid out, but at least with UPS its got a much better chance of showing up with next AM delivery option.

It’s not true. There’s case law about not being able to do that to employees.

The only way would be if a court ordered restitution (and enforced it).

I got stranded in Manhattan once because the jumper that did the Salina>Manhattan>St Louis route got all befuddled because of fog. On the upside, I did spend an hour and a half in Manhattan talking quail with the head of the state wildlife agency.

That, and my hunting partner’s leftover knee replacement pain meds kept me sane.

And brother, you haven’t lived until you argued with MCI gate agents about whether you can check that pelican case full of guns and ammo on the return trip.

Man, that is a dream gun there. Sorry to hear that but hopefully now that OIG is involved it will turn up and the thief who stole sent to prison.

USPS or customs lost an expensive sword I bought from overseas and it got lost in NYC. That shit hole of a place. Neither customs or USPS took responsibility but blamed each other. What a frustrating ordeal. Probably hanging in some hood rats cave.

I paid a $5K wisdom tax.  My wife reminds me every day, I was hoping to avoiding it here.
That $5k loss doesn't bother me.  I've never insured a machine gun that I shipped registered mail for more than $5k until this UZI.   I always thought putting the big insurance amount would get it more unwanted attention.   I honestly believed registered would never get lost, and I packed well enough that damage wasnt a concern, so why spend the money to insure for the full amount?  On the odds it was damaged in transit I always figured $5K was a good amount to cover any need repair.   For whatever reason, I had a bad feeling when I was standing in the post office filling out the forms so this one so I put $20K insurance on it.

Below is the receipt from another C&R UZI I sold for $25K the week before this one got stolen.  I only insured it for $5K and it was delivered without issue.
