Hopefully someone in the DFW area can give some insight. I have tried six USPS location and none will allow any firearm mailings to any other person unless I am a dealer. I have spoken to the postmaster ine one of the cities and she flat out would not accept any gun nor would she look at any of the copies of the CFR, DMM or the "ATF FAQ" about non-licensees shipping to out of state dealers.

Anyone else run into this issue? I called a Ph# the postaster gave me for the "Mailability Requirements Division" of the USPS. First she asked if it was a pistol or a rifle. I said No, it is a machine gun. Her response, after a pause, is that there is NO mention of machine gun, therefore, it is not mailable. I was on the phone for 20 minutes with her and she would not give an inch on anything. Only that machine guns are not explicitly allowed. I asked about sending a Rifle, and she again said it had to be from a dealer, to a dealer.

These people are not reading their own rules I am showing them!?

Should I just keep trying rural USPS? Put the dias in a rifle and send? Send Fedex, suck it up if lost in the mail? (Is insured through CollectInsure..) Just not tell them and ship registered? Of course, this one piece is specifically outlined in Regulations, so..would rather not.

Replying to my own thread here - but finally found a more rural postmaster who is familiar, owns a couple suppressors himself.

How frustrating..

Where did you find the good one? Never know when I might need that. Grapevine has been a no-go in the past.

Returned one to Springfield recently for warranty work, but they use FedEx.

Anna. I'll see it when I believe it though. Two other post offices said "Yes" until I showed up and the worker or postmaster said she would not allow it and could not point me to where it is not allowed.

I'd never had this issue before though it has been a few years. I used to think USPS was just misunderstood and wrongfully vilified.

@RenegadeX is in Anna, he might be able to help you out.

Every single USPS employee, without exception, is a POS. I tried shipping a rifle to a dealer via USPS exactly one time before I decided transactions will either be FTF or ship with FedEx.

UPS.  Shipped many of MG etc from me to dealer/gunsmith and never a hitch.

I guess I would ship Fedex/UPS if I had to. They do not accept them. I assume if it was lost, they would not care and obviously deny all insurance claims.

Insurance pays a reduced amount if anything were lost. I would rather usps just read the rules. A lot of misinformation and blind following of authority with no way to appeal with them.

Mailing a concealable firearm via USPS is illegal. Longarms are ok. I mailed a silencer once and because it was going to the manufacturer the postmaster didn't give a damn but knowing what I know now I wouldn't do it again.

Thread #8700 on this topic. Same answer. Don't use USPS for that ! Yes, they are fucktards that do not know their own rules. Does not change the fact if you want reasonable shipping service with firearms you have only 2 choices. UPS & FedX. OP's pain is self inflicted.

As mentioned I ship out of Anna. I have only had one problem person, and fortunately the Postmaster was there and fixed it for me. I shipped a KAC-MP5SD silencer yesterday morning without issue.

Westminster is a joke, she (Postmaster no less) said no firearms at all, for anyone, all while handing me a inbound box and like a smart-ass I asked her if she could guess what was in it.

No problems at Blue Ridge, or Melissa either.

Other than Westminster, it is mostly an employee problem, not a site problem.

If you are shipping a MG USPS is the ONLY an answer. They accept it unlike UPS, FEDEX, and you can insure it up to $25K or so.

They stopped accepting MGs a few years ago.

UPS does not accept automatic weapons, including machine guns, for shipment. Firearms (including handguns) and firearm parts are not accepted for shipment internationally. UPS Returns® Services are not available for packages containing firearms.

Sure you might it pas them with "parts" but if it is lost/stolen, you are hosed.

50k now it seems. Registered is where all dealers I have known have wanted me to send. Parts are insured externally, so maybe would work sending fedex/ups and knowing they would not care if it didnt make it. My insurance pays reduced value for fedex/ups losses however.

Tempted to contact higher authorities as stated in Pub 52 for appeal of shipping. But most people I talk to just think I should be ok with status quo and lucky they are not outright outlawed by administrative rule.

<----FFL/SOT (meaning I can mail firearms that mere mortals cannot)

Not unusual. I've had two "educational sessions" with post office employees here in Plano. I stood my ground and told them where to find what firearms could be shipped in the Domestic Mail Manual. They now know, but I'm sure I'll have to do it again someday.

She's correct, USPS regs do not mention "machine gun" in any domestic mail regulation. She's not correct about a nonlicensee mailing a rifle, as the regulations clearly permit mailing rifles and shotguns from a nonlicensee to licensed dealer or manufacturer.

Should I just keep trying rural USPS? Put the dias in a rifle and send?

It's a DIAS? Then she's correct......you can't mail it, only a licensed dealer or manufacturer could. It's a firearm. It's also concealable. That makes it fall under the "Handgun" regs at USPS (along with other concealable firearms like AR lowers, frames, receivers and silencers).

Send Fedex, suck it up if lost in the mail? (Is insured through CollectInsure..) Just not tell them and ship registered? Of course, this one piece is specifically outlined in Regulations, so..would rather not.
