I shoot at a friend's property in MS several times per year so it looks like I'll need to fill out a .20 for the entire year, but what should I put as the start date? Should I put the date that I send the paperwork off, or should I move it out a few weeks? This is my first stamp, and I just got it back Sunday, so its all new to me. ![]() |

For out of state travel you need to have the approved form in your possession before you travel. There is no requirement that I'm aware of that the form be in your possession. Possession is certainly proof positive that it is approved, but the requirement is only that it is approved (per the law and the directions on the back of the 5320.20). Approval could be verified by asking the ATF if that became required for some reason. If you're in the well populated above-and-beyond camp then I'd suggest printing a copy of the Form 1/4 on one side of a piece of paper and your most commonly used 5320.20 on the other to save space. |

While having it on you may be easier, there's no requirement to do so and the ATF has records of all the approvals. I've even had them give me a Pending date when I called to check on a 5320.20 one time. I've never had the need, but have seen people report they got an emailed/faxed copy sent back when they requested one so they could take an unplanned trip, and then they'd have the original when they returned. (In case you really want to have a copy but not wait) |

So, I submitted the form via email on the same date as my last post here, which makes this week 2. What's the usual turn around on these? Should I look into calling to verify that they received it? The ones I've done recently have been in the 3-4 week turnaround range. If you were in a time crunch trying to move, I'd call to check they got them. If you're just anxious for your first ones, I wouldn't worry about it. |

Just my first one as you said I don't believe there is an eform for the 5320.20. I checked, but I didn't see it. |

Some Quick Question on email if you all don't mine. I need to send my in for next year.
What email address do I use? Do you just print out one copy sign it and scan it twice, Or print 2 copies, sign it, and scan it on one file? anything different I should be aware vs mailing them out? Thanks, |

Im going to need to fill out one of these forms but im confused on how to do it. I will use the date range from 1/1/17 - 1/1/18 so I have the whole year but its asking for reasons, addresses, and mode of transport.
My reason is to shoot it. I will be potentially taking to various addresses and the mode of transport will be my truck. Will I need to fill out one of these form for every potential address im going to? I live in VA and the only place I would be taking it out of state to is NC. Am I correct that suppressors dont need one of these forms filled out? I am doing one for my SBR. |

Suppressors don't require them. You can't submit 1/1-1/1...you'll have to do 1/1-12/31. You have to answer all the questions. Just pick something. For example: Reason: shooting competitions, recreational shooting, hunting, whatever Mode of transport: personal vehicle Destination address: pick one if the places you'd go, as intrastate travel isn't restricted once you're allowed to travel interstate See if this post helps. |

Mailed a bunch out using your Excel spreadsheet on 10/22 - hopefully I'll be seeing them back soon based on your report. Quoted:

Just had somebody that used my Excel version of the form report back he mailed his on 10/17, approved on 11/1, received back 11/7. Mailed a bunch out using your Excel spreadsheet on 10/22 - hopefully I'll be seeing them back soon based on your report. Yours come back, yet? Was that the first time you submitted the format I did? |

I submitted two sets of forms for multiple states (10). I received one set back so far. Vitals on that one are: Sent 10/22/16, Received 10/25/16, Approved 11/05.16 by Terry Whiting Jr Yup - first time I used the format that you made up. No issues so far. Now just have to get the other set back. |

Im finally getting around to this... If I put my cans on the .20 form anyway I take it they will not be bounced back? The reason I want to put them on their is that the place I will likely be taking them to in NC had a Trooper and a County deputy come by because of "noise complaints" when my friend asked the trooper if the form was needed for cans too he was told yes. I would rather have the form with the ATF's ok so I hopefully wont be hassled by the cops over it. Its a little hard to argue with a federal form granting permission as long as the state laws allow NFA stuff, which NC does. The Trooper and Deputy that visited were laid back and mostly stopped by because they had to and because it was reported as "machine guns" being fired. They both said they wanted to play with it if that was the case. In reality is was probably my buddy doing mag dumps on new years eve.
~~ Ok they are filled out, hopefully they can read my chicken scratch. Ill drop them in the mail in the morning. |

It says right on the F1/F4/5320.20 what firearms require them, and suppressors aren't listed.
Not sure if they'd send them back or not, but they shouldn't. I have one with 8 SBRs, 2 SBSs, and an AOW...even though they're not required for AOWs either. It came back approved just fine. |
