I just had some lowers engraved. The engraved area is very shiny/reflective. How can i dull the engraved area without harming the rest of the lower receivers finish. I am thinking ,maybe a way to rapidly oxidize the exposed aluminum to a dull grey finish? What say you? Thanks.

black paint.fingernail polish before its totally dry, Lightly wipe it off with a cloth with a very small amount of thinner or nail polish remover so it cleans the paint off the receiver and leaves it down in the grooves of the engraving.

alumablack

it reacts with the aluminum and forms a protective black layer. Not as durably as a hard coat but its the same color.

I like the contrast, just don't want it so shiny. I know eventually the aluminum will oxidize to a duller grey , i hope. Just wanted to accelerate the process.

Birchwood Casey sells a "Super Black Touch Up Pen" for AR's for $8. Touch up the actual pit of the engraving and wipe off the surface excess immediately with a clean patch. Works good. Or, you could use it as an excuse to go get everything Cerakoted.......
