when you send in the paperwork to transfer an nfa gun, what does the atf do different as far as a background check goes compared to a 4473?

more red tape.

obviously, but what specifically?

Finger prints sent to the FBI. Other than that, I think nothing really different...I mean other than time waiting

and trusts don't even do that.  so nothing really different other than $200 and aggravation.

If its a trust they don't do shit.  You just have to wait a long time and pay $200.

Personally, I consider the current ~90 day wait for Form 4 trust approvals to be relatively fast compared to the last few years...

I agree the wait is MUCH better.  However, its still too long and sucks.  It shouldn't take any longer then two weeks max.

It's a Constitutional right.

It shouldn't be needed.

But if it's there IT SHOULD BE DONE INSTANTANEOUSLY LIKE THE BRADY CHECKS!

Seriously it's 2015, I can download American Sniper in Hi-Def in 5 minutes but the Government can't log the serial number of my SBR and perform a background check on me in under a month?

In the .gov's eyes, it's working perfectly. Those examiners get paid the same if they approve 1 form a day or 100.

Use your votes, gentlemen.

Look its the .gov. Look at the healthcare website, they spent millions and it didn't work, they could have paid some nerd $5k and he would have done a better job.

90 days is a long time for something that should take no more than 5 minutes.

I get that, but would you rather times had remained the same as they were last year?

Personally, I don't feel grateful when things get less awful.

That being said, I understand that things are, in fact, less awful.

As somebody who makes his living in electoral politics I feel VERY STRONGLY that gun owners should never accept what .gov tries to sell as "an improvement" or a "reasonable restriction."

We need to be constantly pushing for deregulation of EVERYTHING, from knives to Class 3 machine guns and destructive devices.

The left behaves this way (creeping gun control) and we need to as well in order to effectively counter them.

The major difference is the FBI fingerprint/background check, and they also check the Registry vs the form 4, and all the numbers have to match up as well as the description. The reason has to be legit. The state/locality has to allow the firearm.

There is more done manually.

If you ask me, yes, it should be all done in 5 minutes because it's 2015 and not 1940.

But that's not the issue here: the real issue is Obama/ATF doesn't want to make it fast.

The registry is computer based, and there are only fifty states, I'll gaurantee you those examiners can spout out which states allow what by heart by now.

Is there a LAW that says the reason has to be "legit"? Presuming its not a threat or otherwise inherently illegal , all "reasons" should be OK. As a result, that part of the form shouldn't be much of a speed bump to progress...
