About the most discreet location you can legally use (on the receiver) is the inside of the trigger guard.  Front of the magwell is also pretty good.

I've also seen some on the trigger guards of billet lowers. If under the grip was legal everyone would do it.

Only if you own a time machine.

Prior to 1986, there were no regs on visibility, so NFA items made back then could -- and often were -- engraved on that tab.

That changed in the '90s, when the regs were changed to include a minimum type size and depth, and also added a requirement that they be visible without disassembly of the firearm.

Sorry that you missed your window of opportunity.

You can engrave the barrel if you don't want to engrave your receiver.

ATF says you can engrave, "Receiver, Frame or Barrel".

Correct. But whoever you engrave it, the engraving must be plainly visible without disassembly.

I engraved two of my lowers inside the magwell lip.  Visible, yes.

does anyone know a slick place to engrave an AK?

I was thinking barrel as it can be seen the hand gaurds.

Barrel is a good place on an AK.

Why is it that on some firearms, the serial number can be covered by attachments, rails and optics and that is never an issue but you can't cover your name or trusts name on an SBR with anything?

Seems the serial number being obscured would be more of an issue than the manufacturer.

Once it's out the door of the manufacture and they comply with the law, then they have no liability on what you attach to cover up the markings.

Maybe it's implied but your able to cover after the fact? (Ie. How you can change the barrel length of an SBR, because there is no law stating it)
