I am filling out a Form 1.

Do you need to list all calibers and barrel lengths on an addendum or just write MULTI under caliber and the shortest length to the longest length of barrels under the barrel length section?

The Form 1 is simply for making the SBR the first time. You write whatever barrel length and caliber you will use to build the SBR that very first time.

Whatever caliber and barrel lengths you use after that are beyond the scope of the Form 1, you don't include them.

...and the BATFE will not accept "multi" as a valid description. You must choose a single caliber and barrel length.

So what you are saying is that once it is a stamped SBR that you can put whatever you want on the top of it?

He's saying there's no law preventing you from changing the caliber or barrel length of an SBR.

Pick ONE barrel length and ONE caliber for your initial build and to fill out the form 1, then once you have your stamp, you can assemble that SBR and swap any other barrel length and/or caliber upper receiver you wish.

I just called the NFA branch of the ATF. They told me that you need to pick on caliber, one barrel length, and one overall length to put on the form. Then, after it is approved, you need to send them a letter stating that you want to add additonal calibers and barrel lengths to said serial number.

You don't need to send them a letter. Even if you do they won't even get to it for a couple of years. They request that you send them a letter to notify them of any permanent change, but that is just a request and on an AR there is no such thing as a permanent change.

They would appreciate this, but there is absolutely no statute or regulation requiring this sort of notification.

You are free to do whatever you wish after the Form 1 has been satisfied.

Sweet. I already have an SBR for a .50 Beouwlf and I was under the impression that the only upper I could use on it was the one listed.

Not at all. Changes to configuration of an existing, registered SBR are neither regulated nor taxable.

Change it as you see fit.
