If I own class three items now but I'm going to set up a trust to transfer them from me to the trust do I have to bring them to an sot or just hold on to them until the paperwork comes back?

If you current have them registerd to you as an individual and are transferring them to your trust, then you would retain them until the paperwork comes back. An SOT cannot "hold" the weapons for you. You would have to transfer them to the SOT and then he transfer them to your trust. That would double the time and the tax.

I am curious as to why you would want to pay the gov another transfer tax just to move them from you to your trust.

I was thinking to move them to the trust so other family members listed on the trust can use them with out my presence

That does make sense. I would just hate to pay more taxes myself.

Me too but I will just do them slowly it's only three items but I want to do it along with future purchases, I hope they choke on the extra $600

If its that big of an issue let the "other family members" share the cost.
