I have a registered SBS, Remington 1100 sidewinder shotgun.

I am trying to get a remchoke installed and no gunsmiths will touch it.  They all tell me that the ATF forbids working on the barrel after it has been cut below 18".

This barrel is 12" long and I need the choke option to get the gas pressure back up for more reliable functioning.

I have a 14" bbl that has been choked and ported and it works great.

So my question is does anyone know of a quality gunsmith or business that can legally perform a remchoke installation of some 1100 barrels for me?

TIA

I use Michael Orlen, of Amherst, Mass.  He has done several SBS barrels for me and he does good work at reasonable prices.  If you Google his name you will find one of his price sheets with full info on it but simply threading for choke tubes is $55 plus $15 for return shipping.

It drives me crazy when FFLs don't know the law and claim to...

Anyway, Rose Action Sports is the go to place for shotgun barrel work.  He posts here under "Guncat".

A member here, GunCat, does barrel work.  He has cut a few barrels down to 18" for me, and I believe he has worked on a few SBSs & AOWs for members here.

Actually, Mr. Orlen was my first try as he came very highly recommended from forum members.

Unfortunately he said current laws forbid him from handling it.

Well that's not good news.  I'll have to call him and see what he says about that.

BWE has done several guns for me, including some barrel work on my MP5.  Richard does great work, but turn around will not be fast.

Yeah, Tell me about it.

Richard wants my complete shotty and told me there was an eight month turnaround time.

It took a few years for me to get this sidewinder and I really am not too fond of losing it for eight months for a flippin choke install.

I am sure he is a true professional and turns out high quality work, but I just need a choke installed???

Looks like I will be buying choke pilot cutters and taps for this one.

Thanks to all that helped.
