Dealer claims he sent my form 3 july 25, he says he still waiting. I bought a can from silencer shop, they only took 2 weeks. What are your wait times for form 3?

Umm, why are you asking about a from 3?

That is a SOT -> SOT tax free form. Are you a SOT?

ok, so you were talking about two different items.

Form 3 will vary, I have had them range from 6 days to 91 days this year.

anything under a month is good in my book.

Good luck.

Luck. I guess whomever stuffed it in the pile, didn't pay attention and probably stuffed it in the middle so when they bring that stack to approve, it happens to be mid way there! Just like some Form 4s in GA, I know a couple guys who got theirs 5months door to door and everyone else is doing 6 months and some weeks. I guess just depends on where they start on the pile. If you watch the ASA video, you will see bins full of papers ready to be approved. Just what I think, I could be wrong. I can not think of a reasonable reason why some forms that submitted 2 weeks apart, one would be approved 5 months and the other approved at 6 and half months.

i call to check on Form 3s on things that are being sent to my dealer, NFA branch won't tell me anything about it other than one has been submitted.  i call on everything now because my first suppressor manufacturer never sent one while he told me he did, pretty much lied to me so i don't trust anyone now.

I still waiting on my sbr to be transfer to my local dealer.  A month to two is not unusual is what my seller saids!  They have to do a background check on you - again!  And then on the Form 4 another background check!

Form 3 times vary greatly. Here is a recent example:
Submitted: July 18, still not approved
Submitted: August 3, approved August 23

Go figure?

I'm not sure how silencer shop does it, but they get their stuff through the system. I wonder if they are part of the electronic form 3 submission process. My first one with them took 4 weeks, next 3 took 2 weeks. All this summer.

It's another plus for buying from them. At least in my own little experience, their stuff moves faster.

No such thing as electronic submission.

Dealers can either fax or mail them.

There is a problem if its taking more than 12 weeks. I would call the dealer or whoever is responsible for it.
I could see 8 maybe 9 at most.

Mine took 7 weeks, the norm seems to be 6-7 weeks (except silencershop somehow getting them in 2-3 weeks)

OK. I thought I had read that form 3's could be submitted electronically. Of course, can't find it now. Perhaps I read it wrong.

In either case, silencer shop gets theirs approved really quick.

Ordered my can july 16th.
Checked status on August 23rd to find it was on hold due to FFL error on form.
Checked again today, was told it's ready for authorization and should be cleared by mid October.

I'm sure it matters to an extent, although over all wait times have been coming down.  The 68 day one my dealer got from M3, I'm sure that examiner has a ton of form 3s.

FYI - it's not your Form 3.  It's the dealer's Form 3, and the ATF doesn't have to tell you anything about it...

Why not ask the dealer to see a copy of the F3 from the transferring dealer?

When I called, all they asked was serial number and who trasfrd it, them said no record of that serial in their system.  What could any one gain by telling me its being processed. Dealers swears they mailed ir, and sent a second copy.
