Not sure why anyone would leave that kind of stuff in their car, out in the driveway, overnight.

in the driveway? From the post- According to IMPD, there were several cars broken into (including a police SWAT car) in the area. Yes, the truck was locked, and it was in my driveway. Items were out of site under flattened cardboard boxes. It's nothing that can't be replaced, but it's still no good.

I just can not understand when someone would do something like that. |

Quoted: Quoted: Perhaps if we look deeper we will find a pending divorce? He says that a SWAT cops car got broken into too...who knows? I sure the hell would not leave all that in my vehicle, parked over night, outside. A few years ago, we had an MP5 get stolen out of the trunk of a SWAT officer's marked car...sitting in his driveway...while he was off on vacation. All local LEA's pulled out all the stops to get this gun back, and did so within a week. |

I think it has more to do with there being an MP5 on the streets rather than it solely being a LE item. Granted, they both probably complimented each other to garner a greater response, but let us say the guy broke in to the officer's car and stole his spike strips. I would be willing to guess the response to recover those wouldn't be that great. |

That was my take on it as well...although it may have been colored by the news reports alluding to them going all-out to find the subgun before it left the area. If they were more motivated because it was their subgun (as opposed to retrieving yours or mine), perhaps they were imagining what the headlines would look like if their gun was used to a tragic end. I know the detective who retrieved the MP5, but can't really think of a way to ask about this that wouldn't be insulting yet would still produce a truthful answer. There have been reports of other area LEOs losing a handgun out of a personal vehicle and the like...I don't recall them going balls-out on that, to my knowledge anyway. |

So trying to learn for a bad situation. I there a chance that the guy is going to get trouble for letting this leave his control? Is a locked vehicle considered in his control? Who knows..but if I was the ATF agent investigating, I would ask him what he was thinking putting so much Class 3 in a vehicle, sitting outside, over night. I would guess he will have to answer some hard questions about it. |
