Finally stuck a mount for my camera on the stock of my MP5 and headed to the range for a quick test. Hopefully I can get some camera time on some other guns soon.

I've played with my Contour Roam on a 7" AR with the "official" rail mount.. Video is cool but the sound isn't the best, as you just get a "thump thump" from the bolt and the shot itself spikes too high and doesn't register. I had to tape over the mic hole to drown out most of the obnoxious wind noise when using it on my bike too.
The roam has a 170deg lens, so if I mounted it like you did, the whole left half of the screen would be receiver
