I'm a new 07/02 and did my first post sample conversion today. I'm completing the Form 2 and have a question. Which line does my serial number go? I understand that the factory serial number goes on Line 8g according to the directions and the original mfg info goes on 8b. MY model number seems to go on 8d. Where does MY new serial number go?
Thanks! |

SNs go in 8G. If you made gun from existing gun, you do not need to add a new SN. Use exisiting SN like Form 1. This is covered in the Instructions. d. Serial Numbers and Other Markings (1) Each manufacturer or importer is required to legibly identify each firearm manufactured or imported (see 27 CFR §§ 478.92 and 479.102) with a serial number, not duplicating any serial number placed by the manufacturer or importer on any other firearm, model (if any), caliber or gauge, the name, city and state of the manufacturer or importer, and, for an imported firearm, the country of origin. (2) If an existing firearm is being modified into an NFA firearm or reactivated, the existing serial number of the firearm shall be entered into Item 8g and the name and address of the original manufacturer or importer shall be entered into Item 8b. DO NOT ALTER OR MODIFY THE EXISTING SERIAL NUMBER IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. (3) When more than one firearm of the same description is being registered and the serial numbers are in a consecutive series, the registrant may enter the beginning and ending numbers of the range in item 8g. If more than one firearm of the same description is being registered, but the serial numbers are non-consecutive, the registrant may note item 8g to "see attached list of xxx serial numbers.” Any attachment must be referenced to the notice. |

That's what I thought until I looked at the Form 3 for my postie MP5 made by another SOT. Both the Mfg and serial number are from the SOT, not the original mfg. The model as well. What am I missing? Quoted:

Is your MP5 a converted trigger pack gun? You will always be the manufacturer of a post sample. When converting something like an AR lower, you can use the original manufacturer's serial number and model. When doing this, you would just engrave your name, city, and state. If you're making something new like a DIAS, MP5 trigger pack, Glock sear, etc, you'll engrave your name, city, state, and a unique serial number. Model isn't required. We don't typically put a model number on small parts like DIAS, sears, etc because there just isn't room. So the question is, what have you made? Have you converted an existing gun with a factory engraved model/serial or created a "new" gun? |

The postie lower built by another SOT has his own make/model etc. Dunno why. In the end, I just used the original info on the Form 2. Thanks. |

So can those of you with an 07/02 still register trigger packs and use it on multiple hosts Say for an hk? If so what do you engrave the sear or the trigger pack? What about dias for an ar? Yep. You can do either. If you're making conversion sears, you would engrave the sear. It's far cheaper and easier to convert a trigger pack and engrave it. There's a lot more space on a pack to engrave serial, name, city, state. You really have to get a marking variance to engrave an MP5 sear. Sorry; I meant M16; not MP5. Thanks. That is a bit odd that they would use their own make/model on a lower that was already marked, but that's their right. |
