I'm an individual, transfering a SBR to a FFL w/SOT. What form does it transfer on and it is tax free?
I thought it would transfer on a F4 and cost the 200.00, but the SOT is telling me there is no 200.00 fee/tax. I asked him what form it would transfer on, but he didnt answer that question.. |

He must be a new SOT, since he's wrong.
Tax-free F3 is SOT to SOT only. Any transaction involving a non-SOT, and not involving a government agency is tax-paid on Form 4. F3 - SOT to SOT only, tax-free F5 - some special situations, and anything involving a govt agency, tax-free F4 - all other transfer/registrations involving a non-SOT, tax-paid |

Yeah, either new, or just no idea. Kind of makes you nervous. I don't know...my SOT is an 07/02 and been doing business for a long time. I went to transfer a gun through him and he title ii firearm through him and he told me that it had to come from a SOT in the seller's state. I educated him, he called NFA branch to confirm and said something to the effect of "hmmm you learn something new everyday" Could it just be that he doesn't do many transfers? |

He might just not do many transfers. Always makes me kind of nervous when dealing with dealers that really don't know what they are talking about, but I know they are out there. |
