Greetings,
I am getting to the point that I need to consider insuring my weapons against loss (theft, fire, etc.). Naturally they are in a fire resistant safe, but some insurance might be a good idea. I have no idea where to start to look for this kind of insurance. Are there companies that specialize in this? Am I over complicating this and should I just ask my regular insurance agent (cars, house, etc.)? Thanks, Cheese |

That or collectable insurance. I think that was them. Yeah. These guys.

Your homeowners insurance doesn't already protect you against SOME loss of firearms? The magic word you'll want to use with your agent is "rider". A rider is an addition to your insurance policy. It's extra insurance. So you can ask what the cost will be to get a rider for your homeowner's policy to cover $X worth of firearms and what that might entail. When I looked into it with my agent, he said (IIRC) that they'd need detailed pictures, serial numbers, etc., which they'd store on a supposedly secure server. Turns out my current policy is adequate for my needs so I didn't look into it more. |

I hade Insurance from State Farm a few years ago. Buddy filed a claim for his 50 and a few others after he got off an Iraq det with no problems. Unless you have some really exotic stuff they could be a place to look I have mine on a rider to my homeowners policy with State farm. Luckily, I've not had to test it out. |

I insured my full autos and high dollar semi autos through USAA with no problems (ranging $5k-$20K each). They just need the serial numbers and a detailed description to include upgrades (scope, expensive upper, etc). The items are covered for everything to include blowing up while shooting...................cheap piece of mind for me |

I don't see firearms listed in their list of stuff they cover, but "explosives" are listed in the exclusions. Also it says in the things not covered "criminal acts" I would want clarity on what they mean here. |

| Collectables covers firearms and they're an NRA partner last time I checked. Some of the most well-known names in the class 3 world have their policies with these folks, thats how I got turned on to them. Great rates too! But that's just my opinion, go with who you're comfortable with, it's your investment you're insuring. |

My Statefarm agent wanted $1.60 per $100. Waaaay too expensive, don't think I'd go that route myself I pay less than $0.60 per $100, I get a discount for my safes and for having them covered by a monitored security system, otherwise it would be higher, but not all ins companies care about the measures you take to protect your investments |

The only appraiser I found in the state they seemed to like wanted $500 per gun, that's more than my annual premium with Collectables. I love USAA, but they really disappointed me on the guns, they couldn't seem to understand why MG's were valued so high and nothing I said made any sense to them. Cars, house, life and USAA can't be beat, but with guns I went with a company that at least knew what NFA weapons were |

When I said rifle, they did connect me to a lady who spoke the "gun language". 5 minute call, email next day, all NFA was insured. |
| That's weird. USAA didn't even want an appraisal from me. I just gave them a description to include s/n and market value (they took my word as I was insuring the dollar amount......same as with my wife's jewelry). I was GTG with a 5 min call. Maybe I just got lucky and happened to speak to the right person though. |
