Have a question, if my Form is approved for a 12”, could my first upper be a 12.5” or do I need a 12"?  I have only been asked once to show paper work for another SBR, but once they saw the approved form that was the end of the discussion (they probably didn’t know what to look for ).

Thanks,
D

If you have your SBR approval you can put whatever length barrel on there you want, no worries. All they want to see is if you have SBR paperwork in order if it looks like your rifle is under 16" for the barrel. Also 12.5" is close enough, i mean being half an inch off is no big deal, just say you rounded the number. Of course yes "technically" you are supposed to keep the weapon stored in original specs on your Form. Then again "technically" only an ATF agent can ask to see your Form, but we still show copies of our Forms to whoever may ask so they know it's legal.

That is the direction I was heading, can't see it being an issue for having a barrel 1/2" longer than spec'ed.

I ran into the same issue with my SBR in 9mm.  I had stated 7.5" but when the stamp came back, I could only get a hold of an 8" barrel.

I called my examiner and asked for direction.  She said to go ahead and build it.  Send a letter to the BATF so they can update the NFA Registry and in about a year you'll get a letter for verification that the NFA Data Base has been updated.

A half inch doesn't make much difference, but it's better to be safe than sorry.  All it costs is a $.44 stamp.

Your not limited to the 8" only are you?  Did you state that you were going to use the 8" as well as the 7.5"?
