[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Ms. Snook? (Page 1 of 2)

| Anyone have Ms. Snook for an examiner? Called today and it's still pending with her since February. I told the guy on the phone that I'm deploying in August and quite possibly want to take the SBR on the Form 1 in question. He said "oh it'll definitely be done by August." Not sure how he knows that, but I'm hoping he's correct. |

I'm curious - you can take a personal firearm on deployment? |
| I went the trust route. Initially no personal weapons, but after I asked the right person, they are going to authorize it. Preliminary right now but it gave me an excuse to call NFA. If 4 months is the norm, then hopefully I'll get the stamp some time this month. |
| I had her for both of my sbrs, and she is very nice and from what i could tell was very quick in her getting everything back to me. I think the the longest part of the wait is getting leo sign off, time for check to be cashed and the back ground. Once all of that is completed it most like a matter of first come first serve. Now that being said i did mine before the whole obama thing, so they werent bogged down with tons of requests. my last one i got back in less thn 45 days from sign off to stamp in hand. By the way unless things have changed, she is very personable and will take your calls, heck she even gave me her email address so i could get follow up answers from her so i didnt have to call in. |

She's the slowest examiner that I've had. I just found out that she is my examiner too :( hope it doesn't take forever We shall see. I put my form in the mail on 2/23 so its really only a little over 3 months. If it comes in by the 23rd of this month than I can't be too upset. Since I've read horror stores of 12 months plus. I'll report back when the stamp arrives. |

If you have a legitimate reason you can probably get Sandra to rush the Form 1/4 out to you. I called her a couple years ago about a 5320.20 for a trip I was taking the following day. It was on her desk and she offered to FAX it to me on the spot. Funny, the guy on the phone said if I fax them a copy of the 5320 and a copy of my orders they could expedite it. Of all the horror stories I heard about the ATF/NFA, they really seem to be accommodating. Since I don't have my orders yet, no can do. |

Agreed, but my point was to show that they can be accommodating if there is a valid reason. It doesn't hurt to call. |

You will likely need more than that to export NFA, and then you can likely kiss it goodbye because it would be a PITA to re-import it. DOJ recently charged former Blackwater officials for exporting SBRs without a license.... http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/04/17/441081/ex-blackwater-officials-indicted.html |

DOJ recently charged former Blackwater officials for exporting SBRs without a license.... http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/04/17/441081/ex-blackwater-officials-indicted.html It's not a license per se (remember, NFA possession often does not involve licenses...) that you need –– and Blackhawk needed, and did not have. Instead, it's a DSP-5 approved by the U.S. State Department. It is required for both every international 5320.20 and every Form 9 export. And FYI, if you think dealing with ATF is a PITA, try DoS –– they do not hand them out easily or willingly. Blackwater did legally export some items –– but DSP-5's were not approved for every item they intended to export, and they went ahead and exported everything anyway. That is a big federal felony no-no. |

I just saw a post in the NFA timeline thread were someone just got their Form4 back from Mrs. Snook...124 days door to door! I am at 98 days (with Mrs. Snook) tomorrow so I still have what a month (26 days) to go?!?! Very fustrating when I see guys posting that they sent theirs in a month after me and got theirs back last week. |
|
I had Ms. snooke on a couple last year. First was a AAC 762SD. It went 143 days April 20 to Approved Aug 10th.
second was an AAC CYLONE sent June 12th to Nov 12. both of the above were form 4's with trust route. Then this year I did a form 3 from a dealer in Az to Texas. She again did it from from Jan 29th until approved on Mar 23. I have stopped buying suppressors with the stores first letter of S. because of her. |
| I'm being Snookered also with a Form 4. However it might work to my advantage that it may still be pending after 1 July, I submitted a Form 1 for a SBS just a few weeks ago, and it can only be legally approved after 1 July 2010 because of the Alabama law change :-) So anyway I might be able to ask for them to combine it with my current Form 4 with Snook and get it approved faster. |

they can have SBS now in Alabama. Exactly, The law is offically effective 1 July 2010, and I talked to Rob Howard the branch Chief earlier this month and confirmed with him, that we could send in out paperwork but it would not be processed until after the effective date. So I sent in a Form 1 for a SBS the first week of June. |
|
I got Snook on 2 Form 1s (Individual) for SBRs. I have little interest in creating a Trust, and my lasy names starts with "S" so I am sunk with her.
Today has been 112 days since they charged me and 82 days since it went pending. I plan to call at the end of the week again to see if there is a status change. On a positive note both forms are traveling together. |
|
304-616-4500 (write it down) and give it about 60 days before you start pestering them. You will need the serial number of the suppressor, and you are the transferee. BUT... if in box #9 on the form 4 the "I Do" (Authorize ATF to provide information relating to this application to the above-named transferee) was NOT circled, they will not give you the information and the dealer (or whom ever you bought it from) will have to place call. |
| when I called last month, the guy on the phone was less than thrilled to talk to me. I called and said, "yes, I'd like to check on the status of my form 1." I think the guys exact words were, "Oh geez." We ended up talking for a little bit about guns. He ended up being a cool dude. I'm sure he gets calls all day long about people's forms. |

Usually I get ladies on the phone and they are always polite and helpful. Last month I called and guy came on the phone and he informed me that I had "only" gone pending on April 15th" and that I was still "early in the process". I just thanked him politely for looking that up for me. What I was really thinking was 90 plus days into it and I am early in the process!? Maybe he saw that I was assigned to Ms. Snook?
