What is up with the inconsistency with the BATFE?  I just don't understand how some examiners can get paperwork back in less than 2 months and mine has been out for 6 months and pending for 5.  Is it that they really have "different workloads" or are there just some lazy ones and some that actually do work?  I called and spoke to my examiner (I was very polite) and she just didn't seem to care.  When I asked her why people were getting theirs back so soon and mine was taking so long she got all defensive and said, "Well, I should get to yours next week."  That was a month ago.  Do you think it would be a good idea to talk to the cheif over there or just wait and see how much longer it will take.  By the way, these are on 2 form 1 SBR's and I have a few others so these aren't my first.  They are done as an individual though.

I can't wait until we can all discuss this same stuff with regards to healthcare....

"How long did you wait for Chemotherapy?"

"Why did my neighbor only wait two months for his MRI? I've been waiting six!"

It just is what it is. The sad truth of the matter is you are at their mearcy. I was waiting on shippman for 3 months just to send me back some forms that needed a change made to them. Finally got his super to step in and get them sent back, but you really aren't out of the normal relam of a time frame. I've been waiting on two F4's sense July of last year. Going on 9 months. So your 5 months is falling on deaf ears as far as I'm concerrened. You can't really compare your forms to someone elses. How do you know it was the same thing? Was theirs a trust or LLC transfer, and yours was not? Was it threw the same examiner? You aren't comparing apples to apples. You are trying to compare apples to strawberries. Both fruit, but very different.

I understand your point, but as far as I'm concerned I'm able to see apples to apples in the time lines thread.  People doing the same type of transfers with individual just like me.  If that's not apples to apples I don't know what is.  I would just like the ATF to actually have some consistency, or maybe we could charge them some intrest on our money they have had for months.  I do feel for you though with your form 4's. It really sucks that they take their time and don't have any customer service of any kind.

Customer Service?
This is the governement we're talking about, not a private corporation.
Where has the U.S. Governement ever had good customer service?
It sucks because it is the government!

Yeah health care will be run differently.
It will be more efficiently like the USPS...NOT!

Additionally, don't forget the entire reason the NFA was created was to curb ownership of these types of weapons; make it so expensive, or in our case today, make it an inconveniece that some will say it isnt worth the effort to acquire NFA items. They are in no hurry or under any mandate to work in a judicious manner. Until some serious reform comes within the ATF, we won't see any changes, and even then, it would still be a government agency. Maybe then the speed they work at would be comparable to a DMV, but we all know how wonderful they are.

FWIW, a few years back, Congressional hearings were held about the accuracy of the NFA Registry (won't get into that here) and during his testimony, the then-head of NFA Branch was asked what the average turnaround time was from receiving an application to approving it.

He testified that it averaged 90 days in-house, plus mailing time at both ends, though he did admit that a few took up to two years. The Congressmen all thought that was a completely acceptable turnaround time. And those are the same congresscritters who set the staffing and budget for ATF.

I know many are now going beyond the "90-day goal" but it's rarer today for an application to be pending beyond one year, much less two. And I can remember when that was almost common –– and getting one back in seven or eight months was cause for celebration.

In the past 20 years, the only time that things got "fast" at NFA Branch was during Bush's second term ... and even then, toward the end they got buried in a flood of applications, with no one at .gov willing to pay to add help.

It ain't gonna get better while Obama is in the Oval Office.

Yeah. I was absolutely shocked I got my Form 1 SBR's (individual) approved in 2 months. I was expecting 4.

Go Rob Howard!

But I agree. I think it is highly unfair that I received mine back before others who sent theirs in before me.

I completely agree on all these points and feel your pain.  I bought my first NFA last you via Trust and didn't think I was ever going to get the damn thing done.  Like waiting on Christmas but worse (considering I never get shit for Christmas that I actually want).  Bought my SBR from out of state so had to Form 4 to Florida and then Form 4 a second time to me.  That's a concept I still don't get.  If it's in-state, even 6 hours away, I only need once.  Why all the same process to transfer it to an SOT?  Don't they already have all his info?  I finally got it in late October and haven't gotten around to sending a Form 1 on another couple things but will be soon.

I'm not sure I completely agree with the fact that they're slow because they don't want you to have them.  I think it's mainly just a matter of your typical government branch with your typical governement employees.  Has anyone been to get a duplicate Driver's License lately and the major pain in the ass it inevitably turns into?  Here where I live (in a city of over 1 million) they've closed offices up all over the place to the point where there are only a few left.  And the few that are left keep moving.  I've had to get a duplicate several times in the past several years and I haven't been to the same office twice!  Then they tell you, among other things, they want a piece of mail with your name and new address on it......yet you have less than 10 days when you move to get a duplicate.  I told the lady, "How the hell much sense does that make?  How much mail do you think I'll see with my name on it the first week I move in?"  Same thing goes with the post office.  I don't care when I go in there to pick up a package or drop one off.  It's always a line with three stations but only one clerk working.  And you can totally tell they're in no hurry at all.  It's just typical government agencies.

It won't stop me from acquiring more but it irritates the shit outta me too.

When I was getting my C&R license, I was waiting for a few months and called to check status....I was sent to the person who was my contact and I asked if she had all the necessary documentation, and she said yes and it would be taken care of shortly.....After two weeks I called back and she couldn't find my file, she said she would take care of it again.....Waited two more weeks...Called and spoke to a very nice lady who said my contact was out sick and asked me to fax my info and within a week it received my C&R license.....IT PERSONALLY THINK THEY HIRE THE WRONG TYPE OF PEOPLE!!!!!  THEIR GOVT...THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT !!!!

But you aren't. Apples to apples would be two form 1's, sent on the same date, sent by the same means(next day air, reg mail, etc) both being processed by the same examiner. That would be apples to apples. The examiners are all different. It sucks, but its the way it is. Some are fast, some are slow. You can't compare a form that goes to Shippman with one that goes to anyone else. Because they all work differently. Did you know Shippman is allowed to work from home? He isn't even at the office Mon-Fri. He had a form of mine that was approved, and it sat on his desk for almost two months before it finally got mailed out. Is it fair? No. But it is what it is. Calling and complaining to the examiners isn't going to help. If you want to rant on the net, that's fine as well. Its a free country. But its not going to change like you hope for, at least with out alot of other changes being made first.
