hey guys - thinking about an AOW short barreled shotgun.  i know there is a 5 dollar tax stamp, but what i was wondering is if i had to go through the same process as with a SBR.  (ie fill out forms, pay money - then wait 4 months for approval)  or if you just get your gun after the background check.

thanks!

Same basic process as SBR, but note that the tax to make an AOW is $200. Tax to transfer an AOW is $5.

if your gun has ever had a stock on it, it doesnt qualify as an AOW anyway. If it has never had a stock on it you can take it to a local SOT have him register it for you ( he doesnt have to pay the $200 tax) once he registers it, he can transfer it back to you for $5.

i was thinking of buying a shotgun that is already registered as an AOW and was just wondering if i had to go through the whole wait thing.

The process (and the wait) is the same for all NFA items, whether you are making or buying them.

The cost is $200 to make any NFA item. To transfer an existing NFA Registered item, it's $5 for registered AOWs but $200 for everything else.
