I have a legal question for everyone here.  I'm looking to purchase a GSG-5, which has a fake suppressor that covers the actual barrel.  The fake suppressor is not pinned in place but rather threaded in place and almost acts as a shroud covering the barrel.  Would it be legal to have the barrel ported in a style that would resemble a compensator, such as the style on a Volquartsen 22lr barrel and then place the fake suppressor back over it?  I know this would not make it an actual suppressor as there are no baffling devices in place, but at the same time, it would be creating a chamber that could allow gases to expand.

Thanks in advance,
Zach

I believe the part in blue is exactly what would make it a "suppressor".

Don't do it. It would change the sound sig of the weapon. You'd be in trouble. Now, if you wanted to F1 your gun and then do it, I'm sure you could do that, not sure how much of a difference it would make, but I'm sure it could be done if you pay your tax to the .gov

That's all I needed, it's not worth losing my job over.  Thanks for the fast replies.

Yep - ATF ruled on this back in the 80's.
