So how hard and how long does it take to get a class III license and what are some of the requirements?
age/cost/time/obviously background check

First you need to have an FFL
Then you need to pay a 500 dollar yearly tax called an SOT Special occupational tax. This tax entitles you to deal in NFA weapons. But you cannot just buy new machineguns, any MG made after 1986 requires a Police Department Demo Letter. |
| If you are talking about getting something for yourself, then you don't need a C3 lic. You can just do the form 4, pay the $200 tax from your dealer to you. It takes some time, there are a number of options for how you transfer it, but are you looking to deal in them, or just buying something for yourself? |

So how hard and how long does it take to get a class III license and what are some of the requirements? age/cost/time/obviously background check ![]() Only dealers, manufacturers and importers/exporters need licenses for NFA items. Depending on what you want –– machine gun, short-barrelled rifle, short-barrelled shotgun, suppressor, destructive device, or "Any Other Weapon" –– the fees and ages vary. As far as time, yes, it takes months to get the paperwork approved. In most cases the cost is $200 per application, though purchases of existing registered AOWs is only $5. Age depends more on state laws. In at least one state, a 14-year-old can legally own an SBR or SBS. Since you are in Florida, the relevant ages here are: 18 to make your own suppressor, SBR, SBS, DD or AOW, or to buy one from another individual. And 21 to buy an existing registered MG, suppressor, SBR, SBS, DD or AOW from a licensed dealer. HTH. |
