I am looking at the possibility of getting an AR lower SBR'ed but I want to use it for 223, 9mm and .22 uppers. The form 1 requires to put the caliber.
Question is, do I need to register this lower as an sbr in all 3 calibers? If so, do I just list them on the Form 1? And is there any special engraving required on the lower? Thanks. |

List as many calibers as you want (i.e. 5.56, 9mm, 6.8spc, 22lr, .17-M2)
But they will no longer accept (Multi) as a caliber designation. And If you are doing a FORM-1 then you need to engrave your name, city, and state on either the lower or each upper that will be used with the lower or each barrel that will be used with the lower. It must be in a conspicuous location “not hidden under the handguard or grip”. And there is a minimum depth requirement, but I can’t remember it (I think its .003”), but don’t quote me on that. Now there will probably be a lot of people who disagree, but theses are the answers that I received in writing from the ATF. I would suggest that you write the ATF a letter with these and any other questions that you might have and they will give you their “official” answer in writing that you can keep for your records. That way if it ever comes down to it you won’t have to defend yourself by saying “but your honor… the guy on the ARFCOM said this or that” |
