I want to build a dedicated supressed upper using my Tac-16 can. It has seen alot of removal and I want to preserve the threading by leaving it installed on something.
Buying a 10.5" upper isnt going to cut it. The gas port needs to be smaller. A barrel with the standard size port makes it function dirty and problematic, doesnt feed right etc. It will be used on full auto and semi. I know for sure te upper reciever has to be an A1 with deflector, FA, and XS same plane rear sight. Ill be using M4 double shield HG's and a side mount sling swivel. The part I need help with is the barrel- Option #1 Take a 16" heavy 1/9 or 1/7 and cut it to a length that makes it operate correctly with a can. Option #2 Take a 10.5" barrel and use a JP enterprises FSB with the adjustable gas system. I am not sure how it will tolerate automatic fire though. Option #3 same as #2 but using the MGI ajustable gas tube. The gas tube is not rated for full auto. |

I am not sure. THe threads towoards the front seem a little wore but it tightens down fine. It doesnt bother me, it is fixable. It does bother me shooting with an inproperly regulated gas system. That is why I needa dedicated upper (an upper that wont cycle w/o a can, but will cycle w/ a can)
Will chopping 4.5 inches of a 16" barrel accomplish this? |

It's my understanding that LMT 10.5 inch barrels have smaller than standard gas ports because they assume the SBR's will be run supressed. You may want to investigate and make sure what I'm telling you is true, and if so, order one of those barrels. LMT has a good reputation. |
