I'm in the same boat with my suppressors. The form 4 states that "the registrant SHALL notify the NFA Branch in writing of any change in address". Is that a requirement? The word "shall" to me represents a requirement, however I am no expert on the subject :). I didn't even leave the same county, just moved about 25 miles east. Any additional information anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. |
Federal law says that BATFE "shall" keep track of the location of NFA items in the NFA Registry. So, they must print that on the form. But there is no corresponding law specifically requiring that registrants comply with that request. FAIK -- and I am not an attorney, thus this is not legal advice -- there is no crime they can charge you with if you fail to comply. Just send them a letter. Whether or not it's the law, it definitely is a good idea to comply with BATFE requests unless there is a compelling reason to not do so. |
That address is correct and i called today and what i was told was to write a letter with your old address,new address ,when you will move , phone number where you can be reached,serial number of item, orignal manuf,description of item . Mike ETA: I will also send a copy of my Form 1 so nothing gets mixed up. |
