I'll just ask this here since these things come up from time to time.  Can A corporation hold an FFL or is this only available to individuals?

Of course corporations can hold an FFL. That's how Academy Sports, Bass Pro, Gander Mtn, ETC. can buy and sell guns. They must have one for thier distribution center and then one for each store. Wal-Mart is in the process of losing theirs, thats why you are starting to see guns in less and less of them.

ETA: Its actually nearly impossible these days for an individual to hold a type 01 FFL without owning a business that sells firearms.

Thanks, I was reading the ATF web site and only found references to individuals with respect to licenses.

After thinking about it for a few minutes. I think ours is actually in someones name. I think the company actually has to have an "officer" whos name it is in. Not sure, I'll have to look tomorrow, you've got me wondering now. I'll let you know.

Correct. Both individuals and corporations can hold FFL's. However nowadays, before ATF approves a new FFL, they want to see a retail store or some other type of legitimate commercial place of business (zoned, hours of operation, etc...). No more guys just selling out of their house.

I didn't say those guys don't exist. Plenty of them still do. I said that the current ATF policy for approving NEW FFL's is that they want to see a commercial business place.

Got my 01 FFL this year in May, and I operate out of the house.  Its still possible, you just have to prove that you will be in the business of buying and selling guns.  The examiner did say that the ATF was not approving many out of the house FFL's nowadays.

I also received my FFL this past May. In addition I applied for and just got mailed to me my new SOT 3. I'm set up as an LLC operating out of my house with my wife and I as co-applicants on the FFL application.
