| Do I need to notify ATF of my address change? |
How? And if you are using a trust do you have to change the address on the trust and have it renoterized? |
Please define "need".![]() There is no legal requirement that you notify BATFE of an in-state move. However, BATFE asks that you do so, because while there is no provision in the law that you notify them, there is a provision that BATFE must keep the NFA Registry as accurate as possible. So they are required, by law, to request that you notify them. IMHO, sending them a note saying your are the registered owner of XYZ and have moved to a new address of 123 is a good idea -- because I believe the Registry being accurate is the best way to prevent the sort of paper-trail screwups that have turned transferables into contraband in the past. There is no form for an in-state move -- just write a short letter and mail it to BATFE W.Va. |

If you were in Virginia, and owned a machine gun, you would need to fill out the back of the green Machine Gun Registration form you got from Richmond and send it in to notify them of the new address. Other states may have similar NFA requirements, independent of the federal guidelines to which the BATFE adheres. |
