Wanting to build a couple of SBR's exactly what forms do I need. Do I order them from the ATF or copy them and send them in. And exactly what is the whole process. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If SBR's are allowed in your state...check out the above link from the tacked thread at the top of the page for details. I don't recall the # classification for all of the forms, but the actual # for the form 1 is 5320.1

In a nutshell, if doing a form 1 you will need to complete two form 1's, two finger print cards & one citizenship form. Take them to your Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) of your county or the State Police/Highway Patrol in your area if that applies. He or she first need to be willing to sign off for you. You need to get printed as well which will prolly be done at the same agency where the CLEO is located. After all that is done you enclose a personal check for $200 made out to the BATF&E & send it along with all your forms to the address in WV & wait.

It's a good idea to get your lower engraved with your name & city/state the weapon will be assembled. If you are not approved then you'll just have an engraved lower...no biggie. I've heard the wait is going to increased, but when I did my last form 1 I had it back in 26 days mail box to mail box. You'll need to wait til you get an approved stamp in your hands before you assemble a short barreld upper on your lower. You can buy the upper before hand but I don't recommend it so you're not tempted to slap on your lower & potentially get in hot water. Many folks here advise if you buy before approval that you keep it with someone you trust that doesn't own an AR.

I may have spaced something about the process, so I apologize in advance if I did. Someone will be along directly to correct any inaccuracies. Good luck & you'll never be the same again after the NFA bug bites.

ETA: It's a set of form 1's & $200 per application to build an SBR. If going the trust or corp route, you can skip the CLEO & print cards, but it's still $200 per application. You also need two 2x2 photo of your mug that must be attached on each form 1. A lot of redundancy, but that's what they require.

Are the forms and fingerprint cards free to order from the link given?
