I am hoping that someone here can help me. I am looking to sell my V53 SBR and I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on any forums or websites that deal with this. I'm with Air Force and they keep sending me to places where I cannot take a class 3 and to be honest with all the moving, it's starting to be more of a hassle than it is worth. Thank you for any help that you can provide. |

My bad, I didn't see the NFA section on the EE. As for storing the weapon, that isn't a issue since it is with my dad, but that did start me thinking about just keeping it. What is worse, is that I'm looking to add a B&T folding stock and optics mount, plus there is also the possiblity of a new paint job! Thanks again for your help. |
If it is registered to you, leaving it with Dad is NOT LEGAL, unless you secure it in such a manner that he does not have "access" (i.e. cannot shoot it) to it. It just has to be secured in such a way that he can't fire it to be legal. Yes, some rely on the "who's gonna know" plan, but your mileage may vary on that front. |
A locked case meets storage the equirement

And thereby pissing away your $200 investment. Not a wise move as I see it. Yes, Nationwide is correct that a locked case is sufficient, but lots of folks on here seem to completely ignore this requirement. |
I'm sure you already knew this, but if your dad's name is on the Form 4, it's your dad's SBR, as far as the feds are concerned. |

Which also means that you taking it to the range without him is an untaxed "transfer" and therefore a felony. Hopefully you already know that and my post was redundant, but I would hate to see someone get pinched for this bullshit NFA technicality. Now, some will say I'm paranoid with this kind of thing and perhaps they're right. But given the stakes of being wrong (convicted felon; lifetime ban on fireams ownership, etc.) I choose to take the extremely conservative position. The stakes are just too high to even think of coloring slightly ourside the lines. Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. |
