Hi all awesome forum, I have learned a great deal.  I've decided to dive into the NFA thing after seeing a Mac 10 in .45 at my local gun shop for what I think is a fair price.  My question is this:  The receiver is stamped .45 and 9mm but the owner of the gun shop only put in .45 on the Form 4.  I did not notice this until I got home so I'm thinking I should add 9mm to the form.  I would like to get the Lage upper in 9mm due to ammo cost.  Does the form have to reflect the caliber being used or is the stamp on the receiver sufficient?

Hope this makes sense.

Just register it in .45 ACP. You're covered.

You can legally use any caliber and any barrel length in any registered machine gun, as long as the change is not permanent.

So you can buy, and use, as many additional uppers as you can afford, in whatever caliber you want, with no change in paperwork required.

However, if you fall in love with your 9mm Lage upper so much that you decide to sell off the original .45ACP upper, you will no longer be able to return it to the configuration listed on your Form 4. At that point, you should send BATFE/W.Va. a letter telling them that you are the registered owner of Mac SN 12345 and that it has been changed to a 9mm firearm (with a new barrel length of XX", if that has changed as well). Send the letter in duplicate with a request that they mark one copy as received by BATFE and return that copy to you. When you get it back, keep it with your Form 4.

That's it.

That is great Tony, thanks for the help.  I will probably keep the .45 upper.  Again thanks for the quick reply.
