Why do the form 4's still have you send your Form 4's to a PO Box in Chicago??? What happens if you send them right to the new Martinsburg Office?? |
Negative. I spoke to W.Va. about this and they said that when they receive a Form 4 package, they must mail it to Chicago for the check to be deposited. Then it gets sent back. The result is an extra couple of weeks' processing time. This has to do with internal BATF banking policy. Originally all tax-paid applications went to Chicago. At some point in the past they started bouncing a lot of Form 1s (possibly after the May 19, 1986 MG manufacturing cutoff; I'm not sure) so they made an exception for Form 1s: They are checked in W.Va. before the funds are deposited. But 4's still have to go to Chicago per BATF mandate. FWIW.....

| Back in April I called Martinsburg and asked where to send a Form 4 and a Form 1. I was told to send them both to Chicago in the same envelope for the fastest turn-around, so I did. They both went through the process at the same time and were approved the same day by the same examiner. Mailbox-to-mailbox was about 48 days. |
