I am going to be sending a rifle off to be engraved so I can have it made into an SBR.

Here is my question. Would you buy a more expensive lower or would you be comfortable with one of the less expensive recievers.   I'm just wondering what you all think you'd do. I have two rifles that I am considering. One is a home built on a DPMS receiver and one is a factory Colt. Right now I am leaning toward the DPMS or just buying another receiver,  because I'd rather not mess with the factory Colt!!!

Thanks for the input!!!!!!!!!!

I would use the best quality lower receiver (which is not necessarily the same as the most expensive) because you need it to last for a lifetime: First, if you run into any problems that require a new lower, you'll have to pay another $200 tax on the replacement; and second, SBR-registered-and-engraved lowers pretty much have a zero resale value, so you are going to own this one for the rest of your life.

Gotta agree with Tony here.  Due to the tax, SBR'ing a lower is a one shot deal.  Get it right the first time, if you can.

However, nothing wrong with running what you have either.

That's tough to say -- if your DPMS lower went together without any problems, and is functioning fine with no strange wear spots or upper-fitting problems, SBR that one.

If you decide to start fresh, I would check over on the other forums to see who makes the best quality lowers right now. I picked up a coupla RRA lowers a year or two ago and was very impressed with their quality, but quality comes and goes for all manufacturers, so I have no idea what's best out there today.

I just wouldn't make a buying decision for an SBR lower based only on price.

FWIW, I probably would not SBR a Colt lower -- you pay a premium of at least $100 just for the horsey on the side (not that there's anything wrong with that; my M16A1 is a factory Colt and it's my prize possession) but if you have your name/city/state engraved on it to meet SBR rules, the added Colt premium will vanish.

HTH!

You should be fine with any of the top tier manufacturers.  I currently have a RRA sent off for engraving.  If your DPMS is working well, use it.
