I may be moving from NC to CO. What do I need to do to transfer a Class III weapon. Notify BATF of course. But do I need to notify the sheriff of the county that I may be moving to in CO and does the weapon have to be shipped from a Class III dealer in NC to a Class III dealer in the county in CO? Thanks |

I'm assuming that you already own the transferable NFA item. All you need to do is notify the BATF by sending a Form 5320, which allows a change of address. This only needs to be done on out-of-state moves, and there is no requirement to notify any law enforcement in the new state of residence. As long as the item is legal in the new state, all will be fine. No transfer from dealer to dealer is required. Just pack it up with the rest of your belongings and keep it in your possession during the trip. |
Thanks! Yes, I do own the transferable item. That is much simpler than I was expecting. I figured there would be all sort of hoops to jump through. Thanks again! SM |
Once again, thanks. I was just getting ready to try and find the form. SM |
