I have a pietta 1858 stainless steel 44 cal black powder pistol.  I stumbled on some conversion videos on you tube for 44 long colt.  What should I be looking for in a conversion cylinder and is it special amo?  Is this safe and legal?  Any links would be appreciated.   Thanks.

Generally they're made for .45LC. You will only be using standard practice loads out of it.  No +P CORBON rounds or anything like that.

Hope that helps a little.

Yes it is safe and the legal part depends on your state laws I would assume. I doubt HI has restrictions to centerfire revolvers.
