Love mine, may take a little bit of experimentation to find your "sweet" load.
There are precautions to take every time you load one (witness mark, no air gap or double loading) that aren't quite as critical on true BP rifles (I think the Savage pressure is roughly triple what BP presssures are) but they have been (I think) proven plenty safe, given correct operation. You will have to experiement with powder (N110, SR4759 or XMP5744) sabots (MUST be a tight fitting sabot, not just any will do) and bullet (must be either 250 or 300 gr .452 or .458 dia bullet) Needs to have tight fit for the pressure to develop...my load is 250 gr .452 hornady flex-tip, std short black MMP sabot, and 41 gr N110. My gun shoots BETTER dirty, so I have to shoot a couple, and then go for groups. Not enough time to really test, but got a 1" group (on purpose) at 150 yds. It's a panacea for hunters that really don't want a muzzle loading firearm, but they wish to hunt in the special hunt seasons set aside for muzzle loading firearms. My advise is to stick with modern centerfire cartridge rifles if you hate muzzleloading firearms so much that you would buy such a contraption. |

Another use is when only shotgun slugs or ML (or pistol) are allowed, like IL, and I think Iowa and Ohio (among others). That's why I have one, much better to shoot than slugs (to me). I would rather have a 30-06 if it were allowed, but I'm not ashamed to admit it...
