I've got an 1858 New Army in 44 caliber and have been looking at conversion cylinders for it. I'm wondering if anyone else has used one, how well do they work and what calibers can be used with this setup?
Thanks. |

I got an Uberti 1858 and a conversion cylinder to use 45 Colt. It works pretty well. For some reason the first cylinder I bought was too long, it was stolen before I could decide to either fit it or return it. THe second cylinder slid right in.
I still usually shoot it cap and ball, but its nice to be able to do both. |

Dispatch –– just make sure that the cylinder you buy is for the manufacturer of your gun. They are normally made for Uberti or Pietta. Suggest you google R & D as well as Krist Konversions to review the different models they sell. I have a 58 Navy Pietta that shoots 38 Long Colt with the conversion. Some nicks had to be ground down for it to cycle well but shoots sweet now. Also have a 3rd Model Dragoon from Pietta with conversion cylinder ––- also needed a bit of a touch up to cycle well. All of these came from Taylor's & Company in Winchester, VA. They took care of the cycling issues for me with no problem. Enjoy. |
