Any one have any info on a cause / fix for said problem ?
Considering a purchase off another forum , seller says;
" I have is a CMP special grade, which is basically a parts gun with a new walnut stock and barrel. Mine unfortunately can't seem to make it through a clip without leave spent brass in the chamber and shoving a live round into the back of it. I suspect the extractor is out of spec, I was thinking of sending it out to have it looked at."

sounds fishy, i would have expected him to contact the CMP and have them make it right.

FOr answers on how to fix it, try posting in the M1/M1A forum here or on the CMP forum itself

I would use that problem as a reason to buy it cheap. Either a dirty or corroded chamber or a bad extractor.

I would polish the chamber first.  If it  is pitted you would probably need a new barrel, depending on the extent of the pitts.

Extractor and spring is an easy replacement.  It might be just the spring also.

Thanks for the help.  Sounds like it wouldn't be a huge deal to remedy then , unless it needs a re-barrel.

You double posted.
We gave you some good advice on what to look for in the other post.

Bottom line, unless something is really squirrelly the trouble shooting advice there should correct the problem.

the special grades are a numbers matching gun refinished and with a new Criterion barrel and stock. I would have expected the CMP to make it right but if it really is a special grade i would pick it up cheap and fix the extractor issue.

Eta: I'm a retard but they are good shooting guns

They are refinished mixmasters with Criterion barrel and commercial stock

The other possibility is the new stock not relieved properly for the Op-Rod, so it binds, and slows the op-rod enough that it doesn't have the oomph to extract sometimes....

+1. Mine was kinda finicky for a bit. The park was a bit rough. I worked the action and greased the hell out of it. It is fine now. I only bought it because it was a 86k sn. I had passed on a 49k sn a year before. I should have bought more service grade specials.
