| Ive been looking at Enfields lately and found that some have the markings and serial number etched. Why is this? |

I'm not sure myself. But it seems to be the later Enfields that have it done this way, maybe just BSA's? My No1 Mk3 is not etched while my No4 Mk1 and No5 Mk1 are both etched on the receiver and stamped on the wrist.
Never really gave it any thought. Hopefully someone else with some Enfield expertise can chime in. |

EP'ed marks on the receiver/wrist are a No. 4/No. 5 thing. Just a wartime-expedient measure, mostly used by ROF Fazakerley and BSA. ROF Maltby markings were stamped, as were Savage and Long Branch.
I swear some of the people doing the EP markings at BSA Shirley were kindergartners. |
