I have a crack in the handguard that goes maybe 1/2 way. I was thinking that mineral spirits to get the oil out and good furniture glue for the repair. Is that right? The handguard bears no real stress so that should be no issue. |

Thanks for the info. Why wouldn't the wood glue work? Too much oil in the wood? I do a lot of woodworking and use Titebond III for anything that sees moisture. The stuff is great glue. With the old hand guard the glue never really dried. I assumed it was the oil in the wood. I did some Googling and found that others had the same experience. All said to use superglue. |

I've had good results degreasing with denatured alcohol first. The for bonding I rough up the underside with 120 grit sandpaper. I then use acraglass in the crack and wipe a thin layer inside the guard. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile +1.....have used the same method with acraglass on lots of broken stocks/handguards over the years.......it'll break/split someplace else long before an acraglass repair fails.... |
