What is a good condition, non refinished, non import marked, dark bore with strong rifling, all matching number except cocking piece k98 worth? I paid 300otd for it
More specifics and pictures to come, as I am not by the gun right now |
| That does nothing for us to be able to tell you the value. Pictures of all the numbers matching, stock cartouches, firing pin number, cleaning rod number, etc etc. Also no one is going to frame you for murder using the serial number of your Kar98 so there is no need to cover up part of the number. So far looks like $300 is about right. |

Should I clean it up? I would. That stock looks pretty dry. Just don't sand it....At all, with anything. BTW 1940 243 .... (Mauser Werke AG, Borsigwalde) 198,211 produced (or so) Everything looks correct for the code that I can see but as another post mentioned the more parts with matching numbers the better as to value. Deal of the Day for $300.00. |

I think you did very well. Whenever I'm not sure as to if I scored well or not I use completed auctions of similar firearms. However that's not always a good gauge, but will get you a rough idea.
I think you should clean it up lightly. I would not try to bubba it or make it pretty with a harsh cleaning. Just a good clean and lube. The stock looks dry and from the pictures it looks like some surface rust. I would focus on that in the least invasive way to fix it. Depending how dry a stock is,I have had good results using pure tung oil, boiled linseed oil or mineral oil. For the metal a good wipe down with oil. I use synthetic motor oil. For the rust I have used bronze wool dipped in oil. Bronze wool won't scratch like steel wool. For the barrel, shoot it. Then I like to scrub it with dish soap and water. Next, some bore cleaner and maybe some JB bore paste. Hope this is helpful. Nice find. |
| Ok, got it torn down to wipe the crud out of it. Bolt end and firing pin match each other but not the rifle, bolt body matches rifle, capture screws do not match, cleaning rod is unmarked, as is the stock. Has flat matching number butt plate, and all other parts match |
